[1.17] Complete sector scan "not" possible.

Post by TechnoFreakIsBack »

Sectors that have this problem:

[Build version 1.17]
Zone: Auspicious Excavation
AES Cell Fab Matrix I (94%)

Even if scan every possible sector object. Is still get 94% from this complex. Am I missing something? I checked many times - there is nothing left to scan.

I am scanning all sistems one by one. If you find a similar problem in other sectors, please post here.

Hint: If you plot a course to a specific station part you can find it faster.

Zone: Straining Coppice
- LI Arms Tech Fab I
-- ScannAr Facility
--- ScannAr Facility (10%)
-- Warhead Forge
--- Warhead Forge (10%)
-- Missile Forge
--- Missile Forge (10%)
-- Turret Forge
--- Turret Forge (10%)
-- Shield Facility
--- Shield Facility (10%)

There was a blank label for URV Wharf until I discovered it as expected. It stayed blank after scanning - not really expected. I did however expand the tree node before i got close to the station complex so this might have "caused it". Expanding and collapsing map ui and redisplaying the map helped to refresh the station part labels. Refresh list does not as stated work properly in every scenario. Nothing a big thing - just a notice.

- LI URV BTO Line I
-- URV Wharf
--- URV Wharf (10%) - All four wharfs have the same "problem".

The above station parts I scanned and only got 10% unlocked information. Is this intended to happen. Why?

Just out of curiostity: Why are you trying to scan everything to 100%?
For all I can tell it does not really achieve anything.

(sorry I can't provide any help to your question though  )

Main reason: I am testing as this can help make it a better game.

Other reasons:
+ You need to scan as much as possible to know where the goods are produced and sold.
+ You get discount prices.

To get the sell and buy orders you only need to scan the docking points and so far I have gotten all discounts before I scanned a station to 100%.
Would like to know if you or others have made a different experience!?

I remember from the early missions that some station sections can't be scanned completely from the skunk. You have to use a Beholder drone (I think that's what it was called) to scan them.

I've never actually tried this, but I have seen several times that my scans only revealed 10% of a section.

yeah, i've seen this on the actual production parts of the facitlity. 10% for just getting close, 60% for scanning with a police scanner (double click the icon if you have a police scanner). 100% with a beholder drone would make sense.

also besides discounts, you unlock information on production, storage etc of the sation rather just seeing question marks there. here's a list I found in an xml showing what is supposed to unlock when.

Code: Select all

AES Cell Fab Matrix II (78%)

This would makes sense but I verified this theory with the police scanner and the result was no different as with the normal scanner.
10% stays the same:
+ normal scan (information bonus)
+ drone hack (damage to hull)

I managed to get the above Matrix II information to 100%. To explain in detail what was the cause:
+ All the station parts were in fact scanned to 100% based on map UI.
+ Not all station parts (destinations) show-up on the map UI. Like missions, trade offers, and such are "invisible". The point here is: They do not count as station information and therefore do not influence the information percentage! Makes sense.
+ Almost all stations have landing platforms: Bar, Weapons, Repair dock, ... They were the problem! Turns out that you need to scan them a bit longer than one other parts. Do it until the scanner stops bipping. They turn 100% on map UI but in fact they are not fully scanned. Hence the difference in station information percent.

If the station is not listed as 100%, open the zone screen, ".", then open the list of sub components, of said station, to find which part or parts have yet to be scanned. Once you've found object XYZ 0% in the list, highlight it, then press 'Details' "4", followed by "3" on the next screen, to plot a course, the ships guidance systems will point to XYZ's location.

Cdaragorn is correct but to expand on that a little from my limited experience...

If some of the station's components, as outlined above, show anything other than 100% but more than 0%, you can unlock the rest with a Beholder ROV (any Mk will do; Trojan won't work, it damages stuff). Find the component's info point, open ability menu (default T?) and once inside the drone, double-click said info point and choose "Drone Hack". You'll be given a mission to scan several "points" (10+?) and when finished, all of the data for that component will unlock.

Note: You need to be within 50m to scan a point and Beholder with "drone hack" activated makes IMO one of the most annoying sounds in the game. You have been warned :)
The short instructions say to press right mousebutton to scan but it doesn't work; the correct key is, apparently, fire missiles (sort of logical, since it's also used when in long-range scanning mode...)

Above also works for URV Launchers, which don't have an info point; just have it targeted when entering Beholder and you should get a scanning mission. Do NOT let station police scan you while doing this or the station will turn hostile. Eg. I had PMC reputation @+10(ish), got caught and their station went to -20. Didn't affect total rep towards said faction and station security didn't attack, though...

It's also possible to "unlock" URV Launchers' info if you hit a nearby weak node, which opens several nodes at once. As a sidenote, I haven't noticed any significant increase in unlocking several nodes at once with a police scanner; maybe it does or just blind luck... Either way, can't confim it, yet :(

Hope this helps!

Edit: just noticed OP's posting date. Meh, late reply but hopefully still helps :)

See "Hint" in my first post. Thank you for explaining it even further.

As for 10% scans I can now also confirm that you need a Beholder drone and a successfull hacking mission to get to 100%.

All miths busted . Thanks everyone for helping. :)

I believe you are missing one thing, a license! After getting good rep for PMC I bought all but the last one. Now I find new nodes for missions and I bet it unlocks some other nodes for other factions. Like maybe spaceweed trade ports.

Actually if you buy the "trading computer" upgrade, or whatever it's called (it's the only upgrade I could find in the campaign mode anyway), you just discover the station and get all trade offers.
