i7's with HT disabled as of 1.18 improves performance
I have a i7 2600k at 4.40 8 gigs of ram amd 7970 windows 7 64 bit.
So I went into my bios and disabled simultaneous multithreading (hyper threading) for my cpu and I now have about 5 to 10 more fps didn't do a lot but its defiantly running at higher frame rates. before I was at around 10-30 fps now after turning multithreading off its 20-40 fps. just though I would let you all know.

I have been playing for about 2 hours now and I can see a big difference now. Average fps is now about 35-40. Every sector I used to get horrible frame rates on are now significantly better. you still get the occasional fps drop but I'm sure that's something they will clear up in a patch. So if you have an intel cpu with SMT (hyper threading)turn off the hyper threading in the bios you wont be disappointed. as for the developers this defiantly is something to look into so we can turn it back on and still get the same performance.

AMD cpu's do not have hyper threading or anything equivalent. sorry man lets hope the developers give us a sweet patch that speeds things up.
you know all this lag could be caused in part by the ships pathing. you know all the ships that start stacking on top of the energy stations. also the little ships that fly around in the space traffic seem to have odd behavior. every time a ship needs to plot a new waypoint it has to use the cpu. now if you have like 2000 of the ai trying to do this it very well could overload the cpu and cause the lag. just a guess but lets hope they can fix it soon.

For Amd Cpu it's a way to improve fps but it's a bit dangerous and depends on the Hardware potencial and type.
I've tried several ways to improve fps while oc the cpu, for my amd Phenom II 1100t it's give little or nothing improvements when i overclock per multiplier but when i set the frontside bus higher for me from 200 to 250 it gives me a better performace up to 10 fps in Systems with high traffic.
My System with settings:
Cpu: Amd Phenom II x6 1100t to 4ghz with frontsidebus 250 and a little multiplier upset
Mainboard: gigabyte 870a-usb3 rev.3.1 NB and HT oc to 2500mhz
16 gb ram
GPU: Ati HD 6870 to 945/1075
Stable with no Errors on air cooling BUT!
Don't try it when you don't know what are you doing!
Better wait for engine improvements!

a core i5 doesn't have HT, really with all the problems in the game we could do without this type of trolling and miss information.TheGaelicWarrior wrote:STICKY THIS THREAD PLEASE it gave me 20fps I double checked it i5 3570k
For everyone else... I tried the game after disabling HT on my i7 and saw no benefit.

AMD equilevant is something called true core scalability. I don't however know how it works, will it improve perfomance or which AMD processor even have it. Didn't even find it myself, my CPU is FX-6300.
How can you say there is no game under the bugs when bugs so far have prevented us from fully playing it.

Core i7 3820k 4x3.6Ghz (yeah i know, no hexacore).
8GB DDR3 RAM
ATI HD6950 2GB VRAM clocked at HD6970.
OCZ Vector 500GB SSD
Exact same situation ingame (load up savegame, dont touch anything and measure)
With HT enabled: 24-36fps, average around 33 fps
With HT disabled: 33-37fps, average around 34fps
While not achieving any noticeable (if, then very minor) fps gains the fps-rate is indeed a bit more stable for me.
With HT enabled:

Notice core 6 and 8 almost unused.
With HT disabled:

try playing for a wile with the HT off you will notice A LOT less slowdowns. I used to dip down to like 10 fps now I don't even drop below 20. As for the neuter goes there is a way around it. set your affinity to only use the 4 main cores and uncheck your HT cores. should get same performance as with the HT off. haven't confirmed this but should work. I just left mine off for now as I didn't see any less performance with my system.
Honestly HT doesn't do jack for games and very few programs take advantage of it. but I know what you mean sucks to even have to do this just to play a game at consistent fps.

This is because boosting the fsb also pushes memory and Northbridge/ Southbridge and pci slots. However, it can cause heat damage to north/south bridge chips and memory, which typically have little more than a heat sink or no cooling whatsoever. May be stable for hours then suddenly, shit will start crashing and the damage is already done.Neresco wrote:For Amd Cpu it's a way to improve fps but it's a bit dangerous and depends on the Hardware potencial and type.

If you are going to push the fsb by 25% you had better ensure your Northbridge, Southbridge and memory have heat sinks.

I am running a pretty heady system ( see signature) and have had no problems aside from the initial trading bug before the patches fixed it. My settings are all maxed out, on all fronts and i get over 30 fps.
A theory i have is that the nvidia and intel based systems dont work well with x rebirth. To back this up i have 7 friends who all are hardcore x gamers and run intel based systems every single one has told me of major problems with fps and pauses in game during combat. And their systems are the intel-nvidia equivalent of my AMD-ATI system.
So i dont know if my theory holds water ( im a dj not a programmer or computer tech) but it does seem odd that the intel based systems are having a decidedly larger amount of fail when it comes to X than the AMD ones are.

According to the following page the mentioned processor (i5 3570K) does NOT have hyper-threading:Shootist wrote:core i5 DOES support multithreading. Looks like older i5 Processors which only have two physical cores have hyperthreading (and I guess disabling it on these machines might not be a good idea when XR wants four cores) and newer i5 CPUs with 4 physical cores have no hyperthreading. But I'm no expert in this stuff so I may just yada yada more misinformation

You would be right about the i5 3570k not having HT. The only desktop i5's that have HT are the ones with the T at the end. The info on this thread only involves the i7's with 4 physical cores and then 4 HT cores. as its been tested to show turning the HT off will improve performance as of the 1.18 patch.kayahr wrote:According to the following page the mentioned processor (i5 3570K) does NOT have hyper-threading:Shootist wrote:core i5 DOES support multithreading. 1. hyperthreading is something different from multithreading.Shootist wrote:core i5 DOES support multithreading. 2. only the i5 mobile have hyperthreading, if you go to the desktop tab (where the 3570k is listed) you will see no checkmark in the hypertheading column
3. http://ark.intel.com/products/65520 says it does not have hyperthreading (# of cores is equal to # of threads)
