Is it recommended to start a new game with each patch?

As the title says, should I start a new game each time a new patch comes out?

I think while new patches are able to fix in-progress games, so things like free up locked traders etc. I certainly plan to continue with my existing saves.

However, if we get to a point where a bug simply needs a restart, and said bug is one that effects me, then I'll start again.

On a more recent restart, I did notice that some of the grind had been taken out of a couple of missions - I remembered them being much more long-winded, seems that was a bug & it was squashed. Nice.

So this means the game will automatically correct bugs in the savegame? For example wrong drone usage counters? In my savegame my Rahanas has permanently one drone in use. Even when it is not trading at all and is just following me or just sitting there in space. It is still able to trade (under very specific circumstances at least...) but I guess this is still an error. So when all the trading bugs are finally fixed then the game will correct this wrong drone usage in my savegame automatically?

This One-Drone-In-Use problem doesn't look that much dangerous (and will vanish when I sell the freighter for example) but maybe it is just one of many corrupt things in my savegame and is just the only problem which is visible for me. Others here have reported negative drone quantity numbers for stations in the savegame which sounds much more critical. And all this stuff will be fixed automatically later?

You might have a different experience if you restart. If the economy has crashed, it might be difficult to start it up again, even if the traders are unblocked. Even if it is resurrected, it will have had some big consequences. Call it the butterfly effect :)

i'd imagin considering the state the game is in right now. i guess like CBJ said no. but these are small quick fixes. when Egosoft does the big patches in january i bet you will need to restart.

As far as possible, yes. We cannot guarantee 100% that every possible problem can be repaired, but we are aiming to repair what we can as part of the patch process.

I will be personally starting from afresh, I have plenty of experience over many years of either modding, patches or making my own adjustments. While small changes seem corrective in many occasions, as an ex programmer until a restart does the experience and any subsequent bug give any thing valuable. In the case of trade, you may role play through the bug it is fundamental to how the game operates, rather than something like combat physics which is doesn't upset the entire.
