GTX780 installed and life is good

Post by Joubarbe »

Hello,

I recently bought a GTX780 and with all options max, I have 40-50 FPS in Albion sectors.

Before, I had an AMD 6950 and 30 FPS with options in mid-low.

I made two DxDiag, before/after, downloadable here (click on "télécharger le fichier"). Maybe it will help :)

Good luck and thank you for this great game!

Actually you don't need Fraps. You can launch the game adding option "-showfps" (without quotes) and you will see fps bottom right of the screen, and you have a screenshot key in the game (can't figure which one right now as I'm at the office).

What is truly amazing is that, he doesn't have to show anything. At the end of the day, if he is getting great FPS then that's good for him. whether he proves it or not doesn't mean jack. If he is getting great FPS that's all that matters to him. If he is getting great FPS it doesn't matter at all to the rest of us who aren't getting good FPS.

It's good to know that he is getting good FPS however. At least we know there is hope for the rest of us :P

Your performance increase is probably just random fluctuations, on my hardware sometimes crowded sectors are 30+, sometimes same place same direction nets 10.

We know they is a big performance bug somewhere in the code, and it move and can influence fps a lot on all kind of machine. Did you see the video of the person who have an i7 and the last AMD card (R290 AFAIK) and can play at 7 fps maximum?

OP is lucky to have good fps with his card, and I'm glad for him. Some have better fps than me with a lower configurations, etc. Hope they will find this problem soon! ;)

Have your friend pull the second GTX780 from his system and see if his FPS improves. Egosoft has already stated that having two video cards in the computer (even if they are deactivated) is causing known issues with FPS crawl. They are working on a fix for this..

My 2 GTX580s in SLI work fine. 95% load on the first, 20-40% load on the second, with core i5 @ 4,5ghz.

Everything max and good FPS.

What do you mean 'good FPS'?
For someone 30fps is good, another 15fps 'is good', and for me 'good FPS' is no below than 60fps 'everywhere and anytime'.

I have usually 25 to 40 fps. More than enough for a smooth gameplay.

Thomas Edison said that 46 frames per second was the minimum: "anything less will strain the eye.

Just to add that this is not random fluctuations. I've just played 3 hours with no performance hits. This was a new game.

It's not my intention to boast, and I really don't have any interest in lying for a GPU... If my DxDiags can help the team, good ; otherwise, it's no big deal :)

And yes, there is hope, it's a bug, not an optimization-related problem.

FYI I have an i7 2600k and Windows 7 x64.

Watch a 24fps movie. Then watch a 48fps movie. You will notice a difference. When gamers say they don't want to play under 60 or so fps, they aren't exaggerating.

24 fps is enough to trick the brain and make you believe it's moving instead of been 24 fixed frames. Saying that, players can see a differences between 24 fps and 120fps on a 120Hz monitor, it mean eyes work as higher level than this. Hobbit movie at 48fps is a lot different than the 24fps version. The trick is to have something regular. Capping fps to 30 (E.g. through NVidia adaptive Vsync) and the game can be really smooth enough. Anyway, when I need to cap my games to my monitor rate of 60hz it feel better than capped to 30fps. My brain and eyes feel the differences.

I get between 30 and 50 FPS reliably on my GTX 780 as well with all settings at max. Usually closer to 50. But anything above 30 is sufficient for a game like this.

I play at 2560x1440 resolution. I have a i7-4960X as well, which probably helps some.

as for whether or not the game is great....its buggy and takes some hand holding to get around the bugs, but the core of this game is great in my view. I'm having a lot of fun. But that's entirely subjective. A subjective opinion can't be a lie.

i7 3770k with turbo to 4.2, not in AP areas it's fine. In AP it gets sluggish.
