Thank you STEAM - I got my money back...
Well, for all of you who feel betrayed or want their money back, Steam is refunding it. I got mine back after ONE mail to support, no questions, no comments, only thing is, you get it back on your steam account but well. Guess there are better ways to invest the money...
Seriously, the only thing making the people responsible THINK (they might have forgotten that in the last 7 years) is when the "big success" backfires, especially when they look on their bank account.
RIP X

Good news. I got the same, one email from me, maybe 60 hours later a no quibble refund. Perhaps they are aware of what a turkey this one is.Viper_Magic wrote:Well, for all of you who feel betrayed or want their money back, Steam is refunding it. Congrats!
It would be great if someone could consolidate all granted refund requests in one place so that others could reference it in their own cases. Do you think that might help as an argument?
After all there is no reason for Steam to review each case separately, since it is all so obvious.

Congratulations to both of you, really happy to hear you had some success, I still haven't heard yet but I don't have much faith, I foolishly tried to work around the bugs and wait for fixes so time played = satisfied customer in their eyes.
Out of curiosity, how long did you wait from opening the ticket to receiving a response? Just approximately.

I have also raised a ticket with support asking for my money back but I heard before doing it that they will credit your account instead which im happy with.
I did this with a heavy heart as I know it's not a sequel to it's previous titles. I know it's not X4 but for todays standards of basic game textures and dialogue and user interface it is just shockingly shockingly bad. I don't mean to bad mouth it in a sinister way, I am sad writing this because it's not the individual dev's fault which are the Heroes that brought us the original X series but I feel that because it was such a mammoth task and since it was taking 7 years that management or publisher made a call, and a deeply bad one at that.
For those of you that worked on the previous titles, we know what you can do so keep your head held high. Those dev's that worked on this title only, you were on to something here but unfortunately those higher up made a bad call for you. The sheer ambition to make a title such as this required enough content to make two games. One space and one ground and merge them. To say the game is only a 5GB install says it all really.
I will still keep an eye on XR's progress over the coming months but I fear I will reserve judgement of your next release until well after it has been released and reviewed.

Sigh...I'm in the US and just received a reply from Steam - no refund here. I did explain pretty coherently what my issues were, joystick not working, game not as advertised (or working for the most part) but no luck here
I really hope the devs do something to make my $50 worth spending...so far unfortunately it's not, I really hate to say that...but it's not.
Edit - oh it also took 3 days for them to even reply...

Suffice to say, what you got back isn't the end of the line. You still have an excellent chance of getting your money back unless you just drop it here and now.

If you don't own Terran Conflict or Albion Prelude take your refund and buy those. I know Rebirth will have left a bitter taste in your mouth and make you want to say screw it all but those are worth the money. If you bought the game because you thought the idea of running an empire in space was fun then that is the way to go. Sure it's a bit dated but it's worth the coin, it's what Rebirth should have been.
They actually let you run your empire the way you want, fly the ships you want and take on the role you want. This game forces you to be some sort of resistance fighter right off the hop and doesn't let you live the life you chose.
You want to be a trader and fly a freighter around with escorts you can, feel like being a lone wolf merc have at it. Maybe you want to take a Destroyer or Carrier deep into battle well this is the game for you then.
Please don't let the stink of Rebirth linger as they have produced some good games in the past, with luck this was just some bungling and they will work on a new X that will bring back the days of old.

Well, Elite Dangerous might provide the fix we were hoping for with this, ahem, 'game'.UnclePaulie wrote:How do you get your money back ? please give full details I am new to Steam .

I wrote to Steam politely asking for a refund and quoted UK Distance Selling Regs - however I personally do not believe they apply to Steam as the game is a 'service' and Steam have been very careful in their latest EULA - and I got a refund about 50 hours later, no quibbles. Others have not been as fortunate however.

I’m pleased that some of the players get a refund. It’s not fair to buy a game with so many bug for that price. Bugs will always exist but not often in a such a large volume. BUT there is my ADVICE for everyone who bought the game (I didn’t buy) and is unhappy. NEVER buy the game on the day of release. Wait a day, see the review and then buy or not. To be honest I was also waiting for X Rebirth because I think this is the first proper space sim. After first reviews on 15th of November I was happy that I didn’t spent any money on it. I still want to buy the game but I’m just waiting when will be fixed. That’s it. Another the biggest mistake what player can do is to buy the game in advance on Steam or different places. The only advantage is that you can download the game early and that’s it. So player have the game and, CAN’T PLAY, DON’T HAVE MONEY and still no one can guaranty that game will be really good. So DON’T buy early access/pre-order games and on the day of release. WAIT, see the review then make a decision. Especially pre-order - this is completely RIP OFF. This is TYPICAL marketing trick. You spent money, you have the feeling that game is already your lol But ONLY what you have is empty pocket and hope that the game will be really worth it. I understand obviously why players are not happy with the current state of X Rebirth, but most of them being impatient and they should partly blame themselves. No one force them to make a purchase so early. That’s true.

I bought the game on launch, played it for a number of hours then prompted Steam for a refund, happy to say I got my money back on my account
American here and it took them about 48 hours to get the refund to me.
There is no way this game is worth even 1/10th of its current price, still glad I bought X3, TC, and AP when they came out though. THEY were worth the money.
