Bore sight select with joystick
I did not see this anywhere. I have tried playing with the target selection, but what I am asking about is the bore sight or reticle if you will immediately selecting what is in my sights without using the mouse. In a firefight this is a major problem for me.
Is there a selection I can make via the settings that I missed or is this even possible?
Thanks in advance.

Tried t
I tried adding the joystick button to t function. It takes about 3 seconds on my computer to actually switch to the target I am running down. In a furball this is a problem for me.
I was hoping there was a config file somewhere I could edit.
Hopefully in the next one it can be done. I have tried a logitech extreme and a microsoft sidewinder 3d pro.

Yup, you have to program a joystick button for it in the Controls menu.
Keep in mind that, as with the keyboard, it's not instant, you have to actually stay on target for 1 second to lock it. Also there are targeting options (that can be bound to joystick buttons) for nearest enemy, prev/next enemy, etc.

Target under reticule is what you're looking for. the other useful one is lock onto closest enemy (only fast way to lock onto missile, although it does have to be the closest enemy....)
And yes it does take time to lock onto a target. There is no way around that, it's just part of the game. Just consider it a limitation of Auto Targeting mode.
If you want quicker response, eject about 5 MK2 fighter drones.... or get a ship with some auto turrets set to missile defense, or attack all enemies. Or get you some Fire and Forget missiles.

mouse is immediate
Why is the mouse so much quicker? Because of how the game was developed?

The mouse doesn't lock a target, it just shoots the guns wherever the mouse pointer is. The equivalent for the joystick is to shoot straight (with no target selected), which you can do.
If you do lock a target, then the Aim Assist feature will make the guns shoot at where the target is, rather than straight ahead.
Judging by the couple videos showing combat, the next game X-Rebirth will auto-lock targets much faster, and actually will just auto-lock anything in the forward view without the need to select or click, and your guns will follow the target, so basically the joystick and the game pad will be have much more like a very precise mouse.

Re: Mouse
Sorry to say this, but welcome to a 2 year old game where the developer is about to release the next game in the series in a few months, which means they're likely spending very little time adding new things or fixing remaining issues with this one.Prosik wrote:I only want [...]

Re: Mouse
This works on joys that have 'mouse' built in like x52. Also you might be able to bind mouse movement on the joy if you have enough buttons and proper config software for it.ajax34i wrote:Sorry to say this, but welcome to a 2 year old game where the developer is about to release the next game in the series in a few months, which means they're likely spending very little time adding new things or fixing remaining issues with this one.Prosik wrote:I only want [...]
