Trade and resource extraction in X Rebirth presented in a new video
All X games have been created to provide players an open sandbox experience with multiple levels of gameplay elements. Among the most significant is a fully simulated and realistic economy. X Rebirth takes advantage of the wealth of experience derived from the prior X games to create a trading experience that is completely immersive. Today we are pleased to present a trade video that delves into some of the trading, building and resource management aspects players can expect from the X Rebirth economy.
Like any economy, supply, demand and animal spirits are the main drivers. In the trade world of X Rebirth, countless variables impact each of these factors. Prices and the economy can and will be influenced by pirates, warring factions disrupting supply routes, broken station power units, shot-down freighters, good relations with merchants, and the list goes on ... For example, if a player directs his aggression at a freighter, he can be sure that his action will make prices rise or delay production elsewhere ...
Upon first entering the X Rebirth universe, players will find the scale of their trading operations limited by their cargo hold. However, from the start the player will have a very impressive and easy to use personalized trade system. In time, and if the player chooses to take the path of building a major trading presence, the player’s trading activities will reflect the fleet of freighters acquired and the stations and factories built. Even those players who prefer to immerse themselves primarily in action-laden space battles will find that their actions influence the economy.
It bears noting that utilizing the streamlined trade management system allows the player to direct freighters to collect or sell goods. The ships will then perform their missions autonomously, while the player can attend to other tasks such as finding new resources.
Finding new resources is among the more important elements in a player’s economic gameplay and this is also explored in today video. Mining is facilitated by special drones which are designed to analyze and exploit asteroids.
The X Rebirth trade and resource system is explained in detail in the new developer video:

Huh. So the player ship basically can't handle L/XL cargo anymore, but can trade smaller goods no problem. That's fine.
It doesn't look like there's going to be any sort of "small trade" ship, they all seem pretty damn large. I guess cargo compression isn't really much of a thing anymore.
I wonder what sort of capital ship upgrades will help with all this cool Xplore and Xploit stuff? A mining beam is obvious, but ships will need collector drones and big storage and maybe even some processing facilities to help filter out junk rock. That sort of stuff doesn't leave much room for guns and shields.
I wonder how piracy will play into all this? If it takes a long time to load/unload cargo, then it's going to be FAR more difficult to pick up all the space whale goodies. You can't just run over a crate and get 50000 E-cells and fly off into the sunset. You'll actually need to find an isolated ship, open the pinata, and frantically pick up as much as you can before the cops show up. Sounds cool!

Awesome! Although I watched the video before it was taken down, watching it again nevertheless makes me want the game even more. My hype level is too dang high!
Anyways, about small freighters, you can see some in gamescom demo (where the objective says to escort ships.) You can see the player attack a small freighter (hydrogen carrier, by the looks of it) in another video.
Of course, don't cite me as I do not have the facts to source. I have limited time, as I am at work and just taking a break.

Here's my list of notables from the first thread:
Capital ship battle!
Animated visual effects for ship scanning!
Landing zone with a view of the space outside!
Free-floating defense platform with what looks like a huge-*** turret!

Re: Trade and resource extraction in X Rebirth presented in a new video
Correct me if I am wrong, but if the player has to find the buy/sell offers personaly, I do not think he can do much else if he want to trade.BurnIt! wrote: The ships will then perform their missions autonomously, while the player can attend to other tasks such as finding new resources.
That seems a very big bottleneck in the trading system.
Right on commander !

Camera drones, sattelite drones, hired goons, and sharing the vision with any of your other assets. Trading was initially difficult in X3, too.Correct me if I am wrong, but if the player has to find the buy/sell offers personaly, I do not think he can do much else if he want to trade.

There have been no videos exhibiting the game's options menu yet.Geek wrote:I do not get what you are saying. Trading in X3 can be automated. It seems that trading in XR can not.
Therefore, I can infer that X Rebirth will not have an options menu.

How was trading difficult in X3? It seemed pretty straight forward to me buy commodity cheap at one station and sell high at another. It seems that trading in XR is far more complex to me.Bobucles wrote:Camera drones, sattelite drones, hired goons, and sharing the vision with any of your other assets. It's no more or less complex, they've simply condensed the number of steps the player must perform to issue a complete trade run.SIMON POPPLEWELL wrote:How was trading difficult in X3? It's no longer "Order ship to station A, order ship to buy, order ship to fly to station B, order ship to sell."
It's "Order ship to buy at station A and sell at station B." The AI fills in the details itself.

X3 had entire, individual guides dedicated to both manual trading and automated trading, that's not even getting into station management. 10 minutes of video is enough to get across the basics of one of those systems in an X game.Geek wrote:This 10 min video is about trading in XR, I can expect it to cover well the topic.
Remember, there is no such thing as an X Rebirth veteran; we're all newbies at this. Naturally the first set of videos explaining game features will start out with simple, fundamental things like basic controls and manual trading, and more advanced things will be covered later (or maybe in-game).
