All I can say is this better not be a Tri-Synergy debacle where the game was promised to show up through press releases and game journalism coverage just to have no one from Tri-Synergy even attend the show.
As of right now nothing from Egosoft is on the list of Deep Silver games for showcase at Gamescom, but maybe they are keeping the release date release date super secret because someone might try and copy the release date?

Deep Silver (Koch Media's video game branch) publishes a lot of games, so they'll very likely have their own large section of floor space showcasing multiple titles at Gamescom.dougeye wrote:what about kosh media do they have a stand at gamescon?
Based on previous years, Deep Silver won't disclose their product lineup for this year's Gamescom until next week (or late this week, at best).
Edit: Click on Deep Silver's listing on this page. It'll show that they have multiple booths set up across two halls.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

Given all the secrecy, they should be renamed to Kosh media.A5PECT wrote:Deep Silver (Koch Media's video game branch)dougeye wrote:what about kosh media do they have a stand at gamescon?

Egosofts idea of the game being ready was back in 2011. Their revised "expected" estimate was then a 2012 release. Now it's a 2013 release.
Shouldn't really be surprised what they mean when they say "beginning" anymore....
I'm betting on release date being announced 20th - during Gamescon.
Edit: Reading Barrens post about Tri-Synergy, yeah.... What the hell was up with that? They post about Rebirth on their site, a few other media outlets copy and share it, it gets pulled and then everyone pretends they never even mentioned it. What the hell was up with that?

Duke Nukem Forever was 15 years in development and when it was FINALLY released, it was half finished, shallow and bad. Really really bad. As long as the Egosoft Dev's haven't been just jerking off for the past few years, and they are genuinely working on adding features that we never even dreamed about, the game should be good. Better than good. Great. Consider this time as an investment. X Rebirth will be so bitching they will come up with an expansion pack and you will barely notice because you are so busy fine tuning your ship and blowing up space bees in weird pyramid ships.
Of course we live in the real world, and the anticipation buildup and then let down could be the downfall of this game. Like it has been for many MANY other games.

Except the whole reason for the series "rebirth" was to break that trend, and the whole reason it's delayed would seem to be in order to achieve that... why does everyone have to be so needlessly negative all the time? Sure, it may suck, but if it does it's hardly the end of the world.

I'm expecting some wrenches in the system obviously, however, I image once it goes public modders will have a fresh look at problems as they make their mods and actually be able to help egosoft.

In all seriousness, I am concerned about this game. I really really really want it to be fantastic because these are my favourite games, but the delays coupled with some design decisions made early on make me very concerned that this is a game for the previous generation of gaming pc's. Games with long delays on delivery and big silences from the publishers and developers do not have a great track record of delivering, in part because they target technologies that are antiquated by the time of delivery because of the delays.
But time will tell. There are other games I am really looking forward to at the end of 2013, if egosoft drops the ball again on this one then I will probably be through with x, which will be a damned shame.
Shrug. Balls in egosofts court for the next few days, lets see what happens.

I'd say "early" in a month can be up to about the 10th or so, beyond which its the undoubtedly the middle of the month, in my opinion anyway. Of course, "early" is a subjective term so everyone will see it differently.
In the meantime, Rome Total War II is coming out next month, so that'll keep my occupied until X:Rebirth is shipped later this year.

Whenever egosoft drop TIRD on us we can all fall to our knees and give thanks to whatever (Insert deity here) you worship.
When That Illusive Release Date is finally here we can all mark our calendars and get on with our lives the way we want to.

it makes sense to announce the release inline with the games con line ups, game reporters and journalists will pick up on it and check it out at games con walst fresh in the mind and will hopefully start the publicity ball rolling if they like what they see at games con, I would then expect the release date to be no later than the first half of October!
I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

When this game isn't announced until Gamescon or beyond, do us naysayers win a cookie?
The important thing to remember is... Egosoft never actually "promised" us the release date at the beginning of August. They merely said it, never promised or guaranteed it. It's our own faults for misinterpreting their words, getting our hopes up and blah blah so on... Rinse and repeat until 2014
