Hey all.I was just looking again at this vid again

is it just me or does the cockpit look very cartoony?Seems like the graphics from borderlands 1 and 2.I would like to hear your comments on this matter.

I think it's a bit hard to tell in the orange light.

The rest of the graphics don't look very cartoony so I don't imagine the cockpit would stick out too much.

Personally I'm just curious as to what the rest of it looks like and what functional aspects it has.

I don't think that is final version of cockpit ( I hope not ) Even stations from this video and plasma pump look different (structures have more details ).... I would guess and say that quality of graphic have been improved and cockpit should be looking better now.... (I hope)

I don't like the definition of "cartoony", because it is not necessary that the cartoony = bad. The cockpit is not terrible because of this. Fuzzy texture, very little animated parts, cockpit almost static - there is no sense of movement, there is no glare on the glass (yeah, that's important), hands of pilot are terrible, not provide information about the ship's systems (only shields and weapons!?!?) etc - that's bad.
Unfortunately, now we have Star Citizen and the difference between the cockpits in these games (XR and SC) stupendous! And in XR cockpit just one! ONE!

I think too that there is a lack of animations in the cockpit, compared with SC. But on this point, it's really hard to concurrence SC :(

Heres my debate in the bargain.

My opinion? the cockpit can do better, how?

It would be more easy to look at if egosoft can up the polygon count.

Please egosoft if i'm going to play this wonderful game then can you please Make at least an option to turn up the polygon count in the cockpit because it looks too low poly.

C'mon look at some of the Star citizen cockpits!

I count 41 unique names and almost a dozen of those are for non-game related things like hosting the website, accounting and office staff...

Actually looks like their development team is less than 25. And that includes voice and sound.

I would say with the exception of their purchased and built 3d studio they are probably on par with Egosoft as far as numbers, but they have a larger budget so they might have more capability.

Don't forget the Behaviour Interactive, Turbulent, CGBot, Incan Monkey God Studios, Massive Black, Conley Swofford Media and Crytek staff :)

Those are outsourced companies... There is nothing preventing Egosoft from outsourcing their work to. They (rightly or wrongly) decided to do 99% of everything in house.

Just don't think RSI is a blockbuster company, they are just a more well funded independent developer.

Outsourcing costs money. If you can't afford a large team, you also can't afford massive amounts of outsourcing.

To me the cockpit graphics look the same as the rest, cartoony. It's not as much as in Borderlands, but still.
I'll need a sharp high res video to judge it better, though, maybe it's not as bad as I think or maybe it is and it's the style Egosoft chose. Not my style for a space sim really.
The cockpit does look a bit different in this video compared to the one in the screenshots.

When i say look at some of the star citizen cockpits i mean't go to Sc websites and just check em out and see the quality level thats all!

And BTW guys

X rebirth uses egosofts in house engine!!!! Not the cry engine

This is why starcitizen already has goodlooking game assets etc because the engine was already there for them.

If you've ever followed game development artwork is almost always the last thing fixed. Usually 'Good Enough' placeholders are made so that the rest of development (the story, the combat etc) can be worked on while the artists work on prettying up the placeholder assets until they hit release quality. For example look at the beta assets for DotA 2. Hero Icons are originally MS paint, original models might be un textured or roughly textured with just general colors. Later when the heroes are released these things are replaced with a higher res version.

TL,DR: Game isn't out yet don't nit pick too much.
