See post on Page 2

Hey all,

I'm running a GTX670M with 16gb RAM, some i7-33somethingsomething with windows 7 64bit. My x3 TC runs fine in any resolution in windowed mode, but goes a little crazy in full screen. Anyone know the cause?

BUT when I tried to take a screenshot with Afterburner, the screenshot turned out fine. Basically what I'm seeing (i think) is inverted colours or something that looks like the windows mode with turns on high contrast.

Im using the latest NVidia drivers as well

Thanks in advance

also, this only begins to start on the loading screen after you choose a save game. The main menu and such all work fine.

When you start the launcher, go to graphic settings and back down some of the settings, play around with it till you get where you like it. Every pc will play the game with different settings but the default guess for your machine is sometimes too high. If none of those help or work next i would try to find and update your video driver. good luck dude.
Talk is cheap simply because supply exceeds demand.

Yeah I've a heap of different video settings. Tried the troubleshoot settings in the launcher. Tried running in compatibility mode. I'm now trying to roll back to my original driver, because the new ones sure aint working.

Thanks for the reply

With a description like that, no idea, sorry. How about you start by providing us with the information requested in the very first thread in this forum, in particular a DXDiag report and maybe a screenshot of the problem. Then we might have some chance of being able to make sensible suggestions. ;)

Essentially the screen goes completely white, in what I would describe as a serious amount of visual artifacts piled upon one another.

That's probably an issue with NVidia Optimus, because most exe's by default are run using Intel HD, and you can pick and choose which ones use your GPU, so dxdiag probably just picked up the IntelHD

However I certainly was using the GTX670M when this issue occurred, the game won't even start when using Intel HD.

Sorry for not being clear in the beginning. I'll try to get a screenshot up, but printscreen returns are black image, afterburner returns a perfectly normal image, but I'm seeing a white srcreen with a bit of colour around the edges.

The game runs fine in window mode with all settings on max. However, when I select fullscreen mode in the launcher, even with the troubleshoot settings active. I tried rolling back my drivers, nothing changed.

Unfortunately we cannot see your Nvidia card and driver details in the DxDiag so we will have to trust that you are managing your driver and set-up for it OK. Your Intel chipset graphics driver and RealTek HD Audio codec sound drivers are certainly well out of date and should be updated from their respective update sites.

Is this a laptop/notebook or otherwise how is your monitor connected to your Nvidia card? Maybe try a different output format if you can. It may just be your display which is failing to cope with the present card output in fullscreen mode - perhaps because it is trying to scale a non-native resolution and getting into timing difficulties by the next frame update. That could explain why a static screenshot works OK. In short, make sure that the game, the graphics card & chipset drivers and Windows all agree the same display resolution and that being one native to your display/screen. Check your various display refresh rates too.

Oh sorry, I forgot to specify. This is a laptop, the GTX670M is the portable version of the GTX670 graphics card, which might be the root of this issue, as they tend to be much less stable than the desktop cards.

There's probably no easy fix to this, I was just kinda hoping this was a common problem. I'm still happy to play in windowed mode.

I'll update the Intel and Realtek drivers though, thanks for the heads up =)

You should upgrade your NVIDIA drivers.
You are running GeForce 306.97 Driver and this week the GeForce 320.49 Driver are now available.

Have a good flight, pilot !

Could you try and turn off post processing (glow) in the graphics menu.

With most laptops that have dual video cards like yours, there should be a setting where you can tell it to use only the high performance card. Your laptop may not be properly switching the graphics cards when you change from windowed to fullscreen mode.

I know this kind of thing happens from experience because I have a MacBook Pro with dual video, and I have to set it to the high performance option manually in order for my games to run properly.

That's also the likely reason the Nvidia card doesn't show up in the dxdiag report. Running dxdiag doesn't graphicly stress the system enough to activate the Nvidia card.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

I have tried running it with all settings off, only some settings etc. Nothing changes.

I want to stress that this game runs fine in windowed mode. Not an issue.

I'm sure my game is using the video card, I've manually set it so that it runs with it.

I find it odd that the main menu works fine, which I'm pretty sure is rendered the same way as the game itself.

As for the drivers, the reason its the old ones in the dxdiag report is because I was just rolling back then to see if it would make a difference, which it isn't. I'm now on latest drivers and nothing has changed.

Thanks for all your responses

Have you checked the resolution, aspect ratio and refresh rate are all set the same and native to the display down the chain of: game set up - Windows set-up- graphics card set-up - display set-up?

Yes, everything is the same, I've tried my native 1080p, also tried a few other resolutions.

I've also:
- Updated C++ libraries (using the installer in the X3TC folder)
- Updated DirectX (using the installer in the X3TC folder)
- Ran in compatability mode for Win 7( which I'm running), Win XP SP2 and SP3
- Ran in admin mode

I'm starting to run out of ideas. The thing is, I honestly can't remember if it EVER worked in fullscreen, I've always played it in windowed mode...

I think its because I'm using a mobile graphics card, they are not actually officially supported by most games because of stability issues, yet manage to run most games well.

Ah well.

FIXED!!!!

Oh my, how simple it was. I forgot that the limited graphics options in the main menu were different to those in game, so I didn't bother checking them.

It turns out that changing the GAMMA in WINDOWED mode has NO EFFECT on the game, but switch over to fullscreen and your it comes into effect.

My gamma was on 250. I obviously had messed around with it whilst playing in windowed, and never changed it back.

After a bit of trial and error, I found the menu, all back to normal now.

Thanks for all your response!

Great to hear. :D

That is useful info that I will file away for future reference. Odd that gamma only works in full screen mode though.
