I find myself checking the site every 3/4 days now, I really am desperate for a release date. Hopefully it will be like AP where they announced it a (week?) before it's released - that was a very nice surprise.

It said "expected" in 2012 and it says "expected" now. It will be "confirmed" when a real release date is named. 2013 is not a date because there is no real commitment there. The hardline has always been that the publisher sets the release date and does the marketing, so how could any "confirmation" by an Egosoft (not DS) employee be treated as such when they don't have control? Unless there is a date that has not been revealed (doubt that). I want to believe...

Confirmed by whom, exactly? No-one from Egosoft has ever quoted a release date in that year.
You're right, confirmed was a poor choice of wording, the 2012 date was what Egosoft originally implied when TNBT was announced as Rebirth as far as I recall...

I guess it is a good thing no one from Egosoft "Confirmed" the release date was being pushed back TO 2012 during the 2011 GamesCon...

But I guess all those news sources are not as right as you.

Hi folks :)

I presume that when X Rebirth is finally due for release, (a firm date... and this may also include any pre-release marketing information just prior to going 'gold'), all the fans who have registered the prior games of the recent X series will receive a personal e-mail concerning these facts?

The last thing I'd want to read from an external source or third party is that X Rebirth has been released and possibly get an email a few hours/days later confirming this .
My reason for asking the question is while the debate and long posts (most of 'em ) concern future players assumptions and speculations about the actual game, though interesting at times, actually have become so confusing in context I find my visits to this forum getting less.

Certain other games in this genera/development are now taking precedence at the moment (for me personally), but I'd hate to miss the 'real' release date of X Rebirth, even for a few days. :)

Yeah, the difference between an expected and a confirmed release date.

Did you not see the GamesCon presentation where Egosoft told us that 2011 was not going to happen but the good news was they could confirm a 2012 release date with extra features to make us feel better?

By the way, what is the definition of "is" anyways?!

HI everyone ! long time lurker here !

Post by J.T. Marsh »

I just bought X3 and AP on sale at steam , and i thought to myself , hey why not pop into the rebirth thread and say hello to everyone !

I've been scanning this forum for what seems like years now ..it's been a constant source of amusement to me ,"WHEN IS IT COMING OUT !? " or my favorite are the fake release dates LOL !!!!

Honestly i don't know if this game will EVER come out , but one thing is for certain , i will continue to love reading the endless speculation , and bickering on what may or may not happen at some point in the near or distant future ....

I am not longer at the edge of my seat waiting for a release. When it comes it comes. Ill purchase it depending on both critic reactions and player basis's reaction.

One key thing I am longer for in reviews however is "It is an upgrade from x3 tc" or "stick with x3 tc."

I can tell you whats been said here many time; if you see a release date, come here. Check the news.

We can only assume or hope they will e-mail at the same time, but its been clear that when there will be a release date, its going to be on the official website too and till it is, all release dates are merely tentative/market ploy to get people to pre order the game on their website/store.

I haven't. Link please. The only GamesCon video with Egosoft about Rebirth I could find with any kind of translation did not have that information.

It is not the video, it is the reporting from the game news companies that I care about. When DSO and N4G and GameReactor can all say that Egosoft announced at 2011 that the release time was pushed back but confirmed to be 2012... that means someone from Egosoft (I believe Bernd and CBJ were there that year) confirmed that.

Or else everyone is practicing journalistic malpractice and Nanook is infallible.

Personal attacks are not acceptable on these forums, and I consider this personal. You've already had two formal warnings about bad behaviour. Don't make it a third.

But it being confirmed to be 2012 at that point doesn't mean they can't postpone it even more if they have to. That's more saying "yeah, we screwed up, so now we postpone the release until next year. Sorry!". Which is sort of what they did? And that can be said without confirming a 2012 release definite.
Nanook is infallible.
And has an ass that needs more lovin'. Proof here.

<Fixed the duff link for you. Alan Phipps>
Thanks you awesome thing, should have done that myself. Sorry.

In gamedev there is no actual difference between "confirmed" and "expected". You know, a lot of games had been delayed despite of the confirmed exact release date shown on every teaser and trailer AND active marketing campaign.

Here's a little comment taken from Egos Youtube channel.

"ArcologyDesigns
I don't get it...congrats on the effort so far but really, they release a trailer in 2011, say the game will come out 2012, push back to 2013...and now in May 2013 they're still working on concept art and transferring to 3D modeling?

wtf..."

That pretty much describes my thinking. How in 2011 can Egosoft have a release date in sight, the game presumably pretty far along in its development. Yet now in 2013 they DONT have an release date and seem to have even MORE work to complete than they did in 2011? I realise some features would of added in since but how many realistically?

How do they have more work to complete now than then did two years ago?

Are Egosoft purposely pushing this game closer to Star Citizens release date in an attempt to secure some extra sales?

What makes you think so? Surely not the one station Lino is talking about in the latest video?

I'd beg to differ. In my experience, 'expected' = maybe, and 'confirmed' = probably. Note that neither means 'definitely'.
