i disagree hype should be built up and maintained anywhere up to a year before the release date, take GTAV or Rome total war 2 for example, as soon as snipits are released they are posted all over ign reaching more people, the devs are constatnly talking about it, i know its lodged in my mind, i have a good idea what to expect but theres still lots of unknown. However when they are released im a sure buyer. I only know or care about X because i play the old games, which i should point out i only found out about through ign hype is a must have for a successful launch with many sales.

Hype causes several problems:-

- Too much too soon and people get disillusioned and will gripe and moan about delays
- Too little too late just means it takes longer to reach sales targets (on the whole)
- Poor timing of hype can mean an otherwise great game will get overlooked because of other titles being hyped/released around the same time - possibly worse than too little too late.

I agree on these points. All we can really do is speculate since the information embargo is holding tight. We don't really have a way of knowing if the game is nearly done or if it will be some months before we see it.Roger L.S. If X:R is not out before the Alpha dogfighting (presumably dec 2013) in StarCitizen,I think they can kiss -whats left of their- fanbase goodbye.
There are a lot of differences between SC and X:R, not the least of these being transparancy vs confidentiality.
If you ask me which makes you feel better, makes you feel more like the game is in good hands, and will live up to its expectations? Well I guess you know what I will say...

Because no one will ever buy another space game after some alpha version of SC comes out. I can totally see that. =Pavante999 wrote:If X:R is not out before the Alpha dogfighting (presumably dec 2013) in StarCitizen,I think they can kiss -whats left of their- fanbase goodbye.

Haha because, IF that is good, people will totally dive into it, and foget all about R.
Well I guess that post was a bit to much
just hate how I've followed this site for over a year, and have read more new info/ seen more images of another game in 1 week...
X is in my heart, it just feels kinda broken

If you're submitting a bug report on your heart then you're waaaaay off topic.

Is the fanbase really that X2 sagt Bussi auf Bauch? I can't see them all leaving over a new shiny game. If so, Rebirth will just lure them back when it launches. I'll probably buy both games and enjoy them both.avante999 wrote:If X:R is not out before the Alpha dogfighting (presumably dec 2013) in StarCitizen,I think they can kiss -whats left of their- fanbase goodbye.

Yeah I don't get it either. If you're waiting for a game (X:R in this case) and something else happens to come along before it's released: you go and play it!ApatheticEthic wrote: Is the fanbase really that X2 sagt Bussi auf Bauch? Even if you're still enjoying the in-between-game when X:R is released, you either just wait with playing X:R or leave the other game for a bit while you play Rebirth..
There is no black and white "I can only play one of the games that's coming in the upcoming months!". You can play all of them, without forgetting/betraying the franchises you're not playing. Deal with it

Hmmm, while waiting I am considering buying X3:AP
Unfortunately my X3:TC disk doesn't seem to work on Win 8. Anyone know if the Steam pack works in Win 8?
It is in your best interest to reply, because me buying X:AP is bound to guarantee a quicker release of X:R. I am sure Deep Silver are holding out for me to do so

@ AndrewR: X3TC DVDs should work fine in Win8 as long as you patch the game up to date before you try to play it (that way no TAGES protection or old TAGES drivers are installed). That is mentioned in the Common Problems and Copy Protection Stickies on the Tech Sp forum (Win8 would act the same as Win7 in that respect.)
Because Steam does not even load those early versions with TAGES, it completely avoids all such potential problems anyway and is fine with Win8.

I really don't think it will have a negative impact on the sales of Rebirth at all. Even if it did the release date for Star Citizen is so far away anyway they should not even come close to colliding. Having too many good space games is not a bad thing so the only reason they have to be worried is if they have produced a game that is not good. If it is a good game people will still buy it regardless and i have faith in Egosoft to deliver.Falcrack wrote:I think there is a very serious concern that if they delay Rebirth too long and Star Citizen is released not long after the release of Rebirth, it will have a significant impact on sales of Rebirth. IMO, they need to hurry the heck up if they want to turn a profit on this game.
