Can't use first person as Humble Merchant? - Probably due to XTC mod left in.

Post by ouT-Phaze »

For some reason my camera seems to be inside of the hull of my ship, so I'm looking at the back of the front portion of my hauler.

I could've sworn there was a way to hide my ship while in first person? I haven't played X3 in nearly a year, so I'm relearning everything to play AP

Since you give little of the asked for information, it is likely that either you have a game installation problem or you have a mod or its remains that are clashing with the game or its updates.

If vanilla run the Steam verify gamefiles cache tool for both X3AP and X3TC (Open Steam Client, right-click on the relevant game, select properties, select Local Files tab, select verify ...). If nothing seems to happen afterwards then close and restart the Steam Client to see if you get a repair or update download.

If modified now or in the past, you need to remove all traces of mods by deleting the gamefolders and reinstalling or verifying the games from Steam. Now check the vanilla games are OK and then if you want reinstall your mods one at a time noting the correct installation instructions and checking after each mod.

Sorry for the lack of information, and I reinstalled over night, after work I'll test again.

The reason for no DXDiag is because it's not a graphical issue. Everything else in the game is perfectly fine, it's literally just that one ship that the camera seems to be placed in the wrong spot in first-person (as in, the very center of teh ship's model, instead of wherever the cockpit is supposed to be or somewhere where you can actually see.

As for mods, I'm using unmodded.

As for version, the latest version from Steam, I can't check the version number from work, though, I'll get that when I get home.

I'll also let you know if the reinstall helped.

OK thanks for the info, no need for a DxDiag just now, nor the Steam version as long as you have updates auto-installed. You know you should have tried the far more simple Steam verify before reinstalling.

I did verify and that didn't help, but when I went to run X3: Terran Conflict, I noticed I had XTC installed. So I figured cleaning out the folders and reinstalling from scratch may help. I'm guessing XTC had some issues with AP.

Yes that would do it if you did not have a X3AP-cleared XTC install and then Steam updates are being installed on top as well. That is also rather different to this: "As for mods, I'm using unmodded."

Well, when I say "Unmodded" that was me assuming that X3: Albion Prelude didn't use the same folder as X3: Terran Conflict. I didn't realize this wasn't the case until after I said "Unmodded"

X3AP is an X3TC expansion and uses most of the X3TC gamefiles. The X3AP additional stuff that adds to X3TC is in the 'addon' folder alongside the X3AP.exe in the Steam X3TC game folder. Additional files copied in along with vanilla X3TC gamefiles can often cause X3AP issues right from the start or when there is a Steam update of X3TC.

That makes sense. Another hour and a half here at work then I get to see if the reinstall helped!

I hope you uninstalled and manually deleted the Steam X3TC gamefolder and all contents before you reinstalled though as otherwise the extras will still be there. I think you said you did. Good luck.
