The update removed the everlasting 'go to M148' briefing that hung around throughout and after the plot was over, but unfortunately also affected those still between qualifying for and starting the plot from outside the main Argon War gamestart who had that briefing intentionally.
That's pretty much what I ended up doing. I guess when the patch was installed, it reset this plot. I was able to start & complete it, along with the HQ plot, without trouble.

I'll probably not bother with the hub plot since I already went through that once in TC, and I'm currently at war with the Boron >.>

You cant prevent steam from updating games, they are forced upon users. I thought developers knew this already.

While you still need good relations with the Boron Kingdom to play it, the HUB plot in AP is not the one from TC.

There is a NoSteam.exe available for X3AP. If you create a second installation with that one (for example for script/mod usage), Steam will never update it.

Yes, you CAN force steam to NOT automatically updating games. It's in the preferences section of each individual game.

THere just is little reason to not do so.

Both of you are right. You can force Steam NOT to update behind your back, but the second you hit Play on X3AP, it will do the update, regardless of your setting. That also means you can't play an older version of the game, if a new patch has come out.

@Gold Dragon
There are plenty of reasons to play an older version of a game, MODs being the most compelling reason to do so.

Set Steam to Offline Mode. That will prevent updates. Though just starting up Steam, to set it to offline mode, will start the update. Therefore, backup your X3 folder(s) (or may be just a few files that are changed), before starting Steam.Then set it to offline mode to protect against future updates. Ugly, but works.

Note to Steam - make the disable updates setting actually work. VERY LAME.

The recent minor updates to X3TC since 3.2 have all been Steam-specific, basically providing support for additional languages via Steam. If there are any further updates for that game that are not Steam-specific then it's quite likely that we'd issue a normal patch download for non-Steam users to use as well.
