If you're playing on PC, you can do that now, my friend. Mounted combat is in the 1.6 patch update, and not the DLC.dougeye wrote:not to be the elephant in the room but we will all have Dawnguard to keep us entertained soon, until X-Rebirth is released of course. As long as we fans are speculating on anything related to X:R there's still interest in the game, so why should Egosoft release anything further? You are all continuing to drive their publicity machine for them.
However a lack of speculation or no comments for a few days would see Egosoft post some new info just to start more speculation and repeat the circle.
Try it and find out

I hope that X:R will be released BEFORE Europen Union will collapse - because when collapse happens then I will have different priorities then playing games (for example mine family surviving).

No kidding I've already started preparing(, after all it's better to be safe than sorry). And if X:R does come out before that I'll stick it as a backup on one of my external pocket drives.nalim27 wrote:I hope that X:R will be released BEFORE Europen Union will collapse - because when collapse happens then I will have different priorities then playing games (for example mine family surviving).

Please, let us have this source, and who it is that is targetting them.builder680 wrote:....and rumor has it that Steam's servers will be a high priority target.
Back on topic; the likely impact of EU disintegration will be a reduction in sales, due to financial priorities altering, but I doubt it will end Egosoft, Europe or the world.
Why not have a trundle over to O/T, where such matters are debated over a fine Cognac and Cuban cigars.

well if we have missile drones for example they could be good for additional sheild defences on capital ships... or if you get something to the effect of a protect station/ship missions then they could help with the defencive side of it if the ship has poor sheilding to defend against whats attacking....
also if we have some sort of unsheilded drones like we did before, it could help protect them, im thinking more of freight drones carrying high value cargo... or if your making a move out of a combat area because your ships taking a pounding, they could be a sort of throw away sheilding to help your high value vessel escape
i actually though it would depend at what speed they can move, if you could move them in formation infront of a missile barrage they could stop any anti missile fire taking down your torpeado's giving a higher number hitting...
but until the game comes out there is no way of knowing exactly how we could use them, we know they obviously create a sheild in some way but other than that.... without knowing the ingame dynamics we can only speculate... all i can say though is with something as specific as a sheild drone id imagine they do fulfill a purpose

That is if they can move at all after the shield is deployedConCorDian wrote:well if we have missile drones for example they could be good for additional sheild defences on capital ships... or if you get something to the effect of a protect station/ship missions then they could help with the defencive side of it if the ship has poor sheilding to defend against whats attacking....

I'm naturally unfriendly sometimes. Don't take what I say too badly.

I don't know but I sure hope I can use them to help protect my secret asteroid base!squirrelrider wrote:...I was just wondering what use will those shield drones have...

As shields are surface elements... Shield Drones look to me as a way to reinforce destroyed surface elements or to reinforce surfaces beforehand.
It's the only way a shield screen can be remotely usefull in hands of the typical AI (Not criticizing the unknown X-Reb AI capabilities per se... But dealing with attack angles in 3D environments is something very hard to code)... The drone has to have "its back" against friendly cover.
So I guess they will be usefull to launch to Caps or Stations as a disposable way to hold damage done until reinforcements arrive.
Actively controlled, an "imaginative" player, if the shield screen is tough enough, can use them to trigger collisions to intercept ordinance, squater other drones, to ram ships or to detonate mines without loosing the drone itself.

In space? With minimal obstacles?ragamer wrote: But dealing with attack angles in 3D environments is something very hard to code)...
Get the vector from the host ship to its attacking ship, trace a line 100m out from the host ship along that vector, get the XYZ coords of the point at the end of the line, tell the drone to move to that point. Update as necessary.
It is essentially the code for flak cannons only instead of exploding at the max distance, you give a move order to a drone.

Let me direct you to this post. Read the last paragraph:AngryBear wrote:Are we missing 4 weeks worth of screenshots or is it just me?![]()
14-05.. its now 14-06 =/
I'm really to sad and I'm sorry about it to announce this. But this week it was the last new screenshot so far and for the next weeks you will have to forgo upon new pictures. I'm aware about the expectations that have been made here in the last months towards this thread and the new picture for the following week. But it was me that decided to make a cut here and give Egosoft the opportunity to make new screenshots in a better quality to show the actual development progress of X Rebirth.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.
