the-danzorz, can you link to the "massive debate" on Steam related to Egosoft?
Haha i had that image in my head when i wrote it :P

As for the steam debate:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=308264&start=0 ?

It has gone on for at least 300+ pages (split into 3+ threads), people arguing on weather a steam only release is good or not and why they will or won't buy the game purely because of steam.

My guess (and it's just that, a guess) is that you will "assign" them to a ship and they will fly along with said ship projecting their forcefield to protect it.

I would say they are support drones and I would assume that your ships and stations still have full coverage shields of their own.

Does anyone else get the feeling that we're nearing that special time? I'm not saying tomorrow, or next week, but looking at what they are showing us, the game looks VERY nice. Kudos Egosoft!

I wildly speculate a release date of Q4 2012/Q1 2013.

Ah, I thought you were referring to some crazy debate on the Steam forums. But thanks. :)

yes the space station will have a shield of their own but with the drones they will have aditional shield :) + drones i think they fly for a limited time

Question: Wend some one is shoting you or you shot a station or other space ship will there be a effect like audio/visual that it hit the shield and dif sound wend you shot the shield and dif sound wend you hit the hull and at the impact you see their shield.

in other x`s there is no visual effect wend you hit their shields

From the screenshot above, we will see shield animations when weapons hit them. You can now also do haul damage and shields will then try to limit the damage done inside.

So chances are we'll have different sounds as well, unless the weapon sounds are louder then any haul or shield sounds. then we probably won't hear them.

Please force me to upgrade my box for this game (i7-2600k overclocked to 4.7GHz with 16GB of RAM and an nvidia 570 card).

Seriously though, I am very concerned that all of the visuals shown so far will somehow be dumbed down because of the need to support older hardware. I mean how can we get this much detail (judging from the screenshots) in a game that is playable on older systems, when X3AP takes huge frame rate hits on a not too complex station complex because of the connection tubing?

Of course, this will be written from scratch so who knows. Maybe the devs learned a thing or two from the previous engine(s). I also hope that there will be enough detail and graphics options in the game to make it not runnable on current hardware if maxed out. This will allow it to get better still as better video cards come out (and faster CPUs) which I find to always be a good thing in games (i.e., you upgrade your box and an excellent game becomes downright awesome, graphically). I suppose they could do this via some post-release bonus pack which is OK, too.

I do wish they used DX11, though, but hey, they know what they're doing.

DX9's been around for a long time and a lot of hardware supports it. This game done in it is good.

Also, I abhor those bubblewrap shields. I want full ship shields! I hope those are just the crappy, low end shields in that pick!

I have to agree with you about the shield, but having both options would be awesome or at least shield sectors (e.g., front, top, left, right, bottom, back).

It's not the graphics of the tubing, per se. It's the computation involved with all the moving parts, a good share of which is CPU-related. After all, you get pretty much the same lag whether you're looking at it or not. And if we've learned anything from that, it's that Egosoft doesn't 'dumb down' the graphics because of such things.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Skeeter wrote:Them ships in pic 33 looks like there small ships attached to cargo sections to make it a ship hauling cargo like a truck would. I wonder if they detach and drop the cargo section when in a fight in x rebirth. Maybe if that happens your ship or a drone you have can attach itself to the dropped cargo section and haul the goods away and let the original ship pullling the cargo get away with his life.

If true that sounds cool. Unless im reading too much into the ships looking like trucks being attached to cargo containers which look like they could be detached.
I'm glad somebody else saw those. I thought I might be going mad seeing big double-length trucks in space!

Interesting idea wrt detachable cargo sections, Skeeter! With all the talk about modules I've been thinking of stations and capital ships, not TS ships.

(If they do this, I hope they have a few shielded cargo pods that actually contain a big, fat bomb in them. Take THAT you pirates!)

I'm hoping for a capital-sized transport ship which gets loaded with freight containers in the same way that freight ships on earth do - that would be awesome!

its because you speak of "the way they do on earth" as if you come from another planet and your refering to "OUR" way of doing.

But even if DeepSilver has a booth at E3 I haven't seen any info that says what exactly they will be disclosing at E3. It could be X:Rebirth or some other game that the publisher will be showcasing. I would guess though that since it's expected to be released in 2012 that they would at least showcase it. E3 is about 17-19 days from now so it's not that long off.

Show it at E3 and release it in Q4 2013 like most games that appear at E3

That's what they did with X:Rebirth last time, right? Or was that some convention in autumn/winter?

I think it was Gamescom, which is in Germany.

If I recall correctly Deepsilver/Egosoft skipped out on showing Rebirth at the last E3, so here's to hoping they have something to show for this one.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.
