New screens and concept-art.
Only picture one and three belong to X Rebirth. The others are artworks by Alexander Preuss. See also this Devblog entry.

The known facts are that you need a processor, RAM, free hard drive space and a graphics card that is capable of directx9. More specific hardware requirements are normally released one or two month before release.
littleheadspin wrote: and can anyone speculate on how much longer we will have to wait?
Yeah, I can speculate pretty good. And I speculate that we will have to wait 7 month and 23 days until X Rebirth will be released.

For anyone who might take that speculation seriously, I think X2 was joking

Anyway, its not fair to want computer specs right this moment - after all, the game is bound to change by leaps and bounds code-wise and lot's of optimization is likely to go on, so no accurate estimation can be made.

But everything that X2 said spec-wise is true (unless X: Rebirth will only run on SSDs...:P ). We know nothing other than X Rebirth will need a computer to work. Nada. Zilch. Zippo (well, other than DX9).

I know I've mentioned this a few times, but seriously, check this out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6UAB-YNXns

It raises my optimism about the drones, and the component specific combat with stations and capital ships.

It shows torpedo drones, fighter drones, and shield drones. The torpedo drones remind me of bombers in Homeworld. The system specific attacking (ability to take down shields, engines, jumpdrive, and specific guns) make me think that combat will be a lot more tactical and interesting.

As for the AI controls, with a new engine, they will have more ability to make better AI. I read in one article that you can tell your cap ship to attack from the left or from the right of a ship. That sounds like you will definitely need smarter AI that is very aware of it's bearings, speed, and movement. No longer will it be cap ships trying to turn in for a straffing run.

Also, I agree with doug, if there wasn't any capture feature, what would be the point of disabling a jumpdrive or engines on a ship? (flip side: that could only be for story elements, but not in sandbox, but, if that is the case, then the modders will take care of that).

I am an OPTIMIST (now at least :)) Join me in my optimism!! DRINK THE KOOL AID, MAN!!!

Thanks for link, I saw that video before but never saw the translation and now even more excited.

Yes we lose a bit on hands on for dogfighting capital ships but no one knows what the starter will end up being classwise at either.

But I am happy to have NPC hired personell as opposed to just AI scripts. It definately gives the feeling of ownership and controlling an empire not just a sophisticated bot.

If I had to nitpick with anything there, I would say its the travel system. Will have to wait and see but I liked free roam travel with time dilations but merging onto a 'highway' sounds more planet bound than space travel.

Not sure whether it's been mentioned before, but at the end of that interview with Alex Preuss, he states that you can build your own ships.
Alex Preuss wrote:As the Player you have the freedom to do almost everything in this game, like traveling to every point in the universe, to dogfight with enemies, strategic battles with armadas of capital ships, build your own ships, stations and economy, or trade with aliens for goods and weapons, and a lot more.
Not sure whether this will mean you can own shipyards this time, or whether there's another HQ-type station.

Im hoping for a Freespace style wing command... once learned you could give orders in less than a second.

But it seems unlikely.

as for cap ships the only differnece will be you cant control the u down left right forward back faster slower movements with a joystick or mouse / keyboard which is fine by me because i like emmersion and ordering your subordinates to carry out a tactic or attack a target is much more immersive that shift-c , 2 , 2 :P lol
The problem is the capship crew (lack)of AI, they would have to know and use different approaches in order to attack a enemy M2. X3R + TC : any capship ever tried to attack from behind another one or from a dead spot. Will they try to avoid incoming fire?

Even the advanced combat script for AI fighters didn't helped much....

i think though that with a new engine people have to consider that the combat algorithams arw going to be far more sophisticated. For all we know these scripts will have the ability to judge a situation based on percentages and take the appropriate action. It will be for example like the Dragons in Skyrim who will supposedly have a set of rules to follow but other than that can basicly make there own decision how to fight based on the enemies class / position and strategies.

understandably this remains to be seen properly in terms of skyrim, im im sure alot of us remember the hype over oblivion and its "radient AI" lol nice idea but it basicly turned every npc in homocidal maniacs after a few game hours so they had tone it down. But the bottom line is its more than posibble.

I think people are still thinking within the limitations of the games they know and love from the x series, As egosoft keep stating this is not X4, its not just a graphics upgrade from x3tc its a completly new build and the reason it is a new build is so that new technologies and features can be encorporated to create a space sim experience no one has ever seen before!!!!

fingers crossed :P  :!:

Simply to make easier the kill and stop it from running away?

For all we know it could be just as bad or worse than TC. All they said about it was 'rewritten', which is a given with a new engine, we don't know how it will perform and when looking at the artificial stupidity other, much bigger developers produce I highly doubt Egosoft will develop the worlds first non-r******* AI.

Unfortunately I expect the AI to have lots of problems - as Noimageavailable says, they all do. I just hope they're different (and hopefully less significant) than the ones we all know and have whinged about, many a time!

Just think of the fun we can have working them out, seeing where we can take advantage of it and then complaining bitterly when it doesn't go quite right and costs us a battle/capital ship/mission success/reputation rank/whatever new and wonderful things Ego give us :p

After watching that video I must say I really think it's going to be quite good. Sure, it's different, but the huge amount of player to NPC interaction, the fact we actually have crews and station managers, and how things seem so modular and... awesome. Just looks... AWESOME!

they will never enable this option in the first place. And if there is no option but always "yes"... spare me this kind of hardcoreness!

Anyway ES is heading different way.
