Hello, I just installed the new XRM mod and decided too install IR with it as well. I haven't used IR in a long time and the last time I used it I thought there was too much action going on, maybe this has changed in later versions?

Do you have any recommendations on which settings I should use to make it a bit more peaceful?

Cheers.

Edit: Also how will this script affect performance later in the game?

only situations that hurt performance are when xenon or khaak go out of control and breed in huge numbers. Sometimes it happens. You can use cheat scripts to clear sector that is overpopulated. Besides that - even highest settings do not hut game at all.

Unless you apply MARS for all AI bigships. That may hurt.

I am currently tweaking those to make fleets smaller. 15/27 should help, 15.28 will be even more radical in xenon area.

Thanks for answering.

Allright, going to to give this script a try again. I really can't stand low performance so its good to know it isn't that FPS hungry.

Another question: How often will invasions occur? And is it possible to change it some way?

Cheers.

Set as friend to Paranid, foe to Argon. At the start of the fight, Argon are red, Paranid blue. Likewise, as I noted, I was +1 Paranid rep and -1 Argon, it's taking place in a Paranid border sector.

I'm going to test it a bit more, I suspect it only happens when my AI ships destroy the argon vessel, not me directly.

It's definitely the same problem I was having in my previous (non-XRM) game noted above with the Boron getting mysteriously pissed (they continued to do so when I changed the hot war settings to be foes of the Split)

if everything turned red all at once, IR has nothing to do with it. and if your notoriety towards Paranid has not changed, that MUST be FF setting. Check both global settings (shift+G) and ship setting.

IR ships very often update notoriety. In most cases, they dont treat player as enemy if hes above -300 notoriety. They even check stuff right before attacking during target evaluation.

they also not use race logic, so they dont care about GoD telling them to attack player when he is misbehaving etc

THE ONLY thing in IR that could mess with relations would be notoriety fixer, but it no loger works in background, just when you enter sector or undock from station. If you were just flying around.

If situation happened EXACTLY when one of your ships undocked (includfing fighters on carrier), then it very likely might be 'notoriety fixer' job.

I was intrigued by this mod, so I tried it out. However, after incredibly frequent game crashes where it freezes up, does a sound loop for a while, then boots me out of the game, I'm uninstalling it. It's not really worth the trouble, it seems.

Is there a simple explanation for all the crashes? I notice in my task manager that when it crashes, it seems to coincide with a upward spike in RAM usage. However, I have 4 GB of RAM installed, and it seems to occur whenever RAM usage begins to exceeds 2 GB. What settings could be turned off in the IR menu that would make it crash free? So far I have tried to limit the number of fighters, which seemed to help perhaps a little, but I am still getting crashes.

This appears to be a technical problem, not an script problem.

if your on a 32 bit operating system, the game is reaching its memory cap - and does not like it

if your on a 64bit operating system, the game is reaching its 32bit memory cap, witch may have been extended by LAA to 4gb, however something is still going wrong

I have a 5 year old computer with 3 GB and use a TON of scripts and mods. One of which is IR on nearly max settings and my game runs like butter.

I suspect you have an issue related to a bad install of something or your computer is gone wonky.

sure. XRM is designed with IR in mind, as Mizuchi said, so actually it is currently best mod to use with IR in general.

try without xenon and khaak

play for longer time and it does not crash, enable one. Also, if you enabled MARS for AI,,, try disabling

I actually had a crash issue (never checked if RAM usage spikes), but I disabled everything except true relations in the "More Options" menu, and it worked perfectly.

djrygar:

I'm still having issues with cleaning the universe due to a split ship, can you put in a failsafe here somehow? If it also informs where the ship it couldn't clean is located, that would be useful.

if any script will try do do anything with this ship, game will crash. This ship does not exist anymore, but still... heh... exists. Its like half-deleted. It has no properties. This also means if other ship will try to attack it, game will crash as well because script controlling attacker will try to read victim properties. Deleting itself will also trigger crash, because game will try to access memory area that is not allocated by it, and Windows will say 'GTFO' to x3tc.exe

if you have used IR for long time within this current game (ie. you havent restated game for long, long time), then this bug is caused by one of older versions (like half year ago or more), and it was fixed. I had this one long ago pretty often, so did other users. Yet, I haven't heard of it for long time, neither did I saw it myself since the fix. If you did started new game lately, then I don't know why it happened to you.

I have XP 32 bit. I suspected that the frequent crashes with the IR script was due to the Khaak or Xenon, but having them in the game is a lot of the fun. Anyways, back to vanilla for me!

unfortunatelly, It seems that Litcube's missile boat addon is either incompatible with IR or has some bug in it. It causes crashes to desktop during in-sector battles.

so my advice is to remove it from your games.

probably preventing it from running on IR ships will fix the problem. IR missile boats have their own routines to deal with targets, missile resupply and barrages, so there is probably some conflict. I am not sure.

I don't know if this has been mention yet or not, but does collateral damage works with the latest version of IR? I keep trying to enable it, but when I check IR plugin again, it was disable. It would really make the game more realistic and fun. I battle a lot of Xenon, and would like to take down as many of their fighter when a K or J blows up.

There is a reason why there are new Pirate and Unknown Sectors covering trade bottlenecks, is all I'm saying.

(A reason that would go very well with IR's "Player Sector Takeover" feature, if you catch my drift knowing wink)

I installed the improved races mod, but it doesnt seem to be working.
I am playing it with transcend mod and occasionally the teladi request assistance, but when I jump there, no invasion ever spawns.

No other races have ever asked for help.

After setting the settings in the AL life settings, I exit the configuration options and when I go back in, all the xenon, khaak options are still displayed as disabled, so Im pretty sure nothing else works either.

Also I get a whole heap of readtext errors in the config menu too, although the t file is definitely in the game.

I wanted to try reinstall, but Im not sure what the safest way to do so is.

Any advise anyone can give to help me would be helpful. Im lead to believe this is one of the best AI boost mods available
