Aw no!

Well done on an enjoyable story. As the saying goes, 'It's not the tale, but he who tells it.'

Horrified! Mortified! Future generations will be taught to despise the Paranid for this betrayal!

You gave us all a great story Scion and it's a damn shame those bloody three eyes had to finish it. Are you going to carry on playing him (even if you don't continue to post)?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :headbang:

It can't....can't be over, not like this..... :(
Those F@#&ing Paranids!
What is their problem? It was only a few jacked fighters and freighter, not like it's the world or anything. And the Split? That M7M was already an old rustbucket, he did them a favor of relieving them of the burden of taking care of it... ungrateful muppets...

Don't worry Scion, your name shall be remembered in X history forever! And thanks for the story, it was awesome! Looking forward to your next DiD!

Bah, you were too good to die. You're just pulling our legs, aren't you? You can't get killed just like that... :(

Or, then again, you can. Paranid tech IS some of the best in X, no matter how irritating they are. :P

'Twas a good run, but now the end is reached. Lay down your baton, Scion Drakhar, Pirate, and let the clans avenge you. *mug of space fuel used to toast the successes of this DiD*
(which, incidentally, still needs to be moved to the CU.)
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

After the memorial drinks'll be served on the Good Fortune. Try not to pass out as you'll probably wake up sold into slavery. (Pirates.)

I have to admit that did not end the way I was hoping for, which would have been ... er ... not to. I've re-read all the posts though and I guess I should have seen it coming. Those bloody Paranid have been my nemesis since the very beginning.
Kirlack wrote:Are you going to carry on playing him (even if you don't continue to post)?
No. It was a DiD and it's come to an end. To continue at this point would lose something vital ... for me anyhow.

Unfortunately I can. I've noticed that there is a trait in my character that is very dangerous for my game. Carelessness. When I'm proceeding slow and careful everything goes smooth. When I'm going full steam ahead, consequences be damned, the consequences tend to damn me. Next time, at the very least, I will make a point of checking the sectors ahead of me before I fly a capital ship through the gate ... unless of course I'm flying an Osaka or a Tyr in which case ... well, lets just say it'd be entertaining.

This past month my enjoyment was threefold. I got to play. I got to write. Most of all, though, I enjoyed interacting with all of you. I very much enjoyed watching the number of hits climb every day, and my greatest joy was reading what all of you had to say. Also, I'm currently without the means to fill my hours. So, as I circle the point, what I'm actually getting to is, I would very much like to begin another.

So. Do any of you have any suggestions, ideas, challenges, etc?

On a final note someone has done me the very great service of compiling this thread into a PDF format. I won't name this person atm as I'm not sure if they want the publicity, but I will say, publicly, that I very very much appreciate it. So, when the details get worked out I will eventually attach a link to said PDF to my signature.

Very much looking forward to hearing from all of you.

I admit those would have been perfectly valid courses of action if I'd thought of them. My first response when I started taking fire was to shoot back. By the time I realized I was hideously outgunned those tomahawks were already in the air and the bombers were only 3-4km away. All said and done I believe the whole engagement lasted about 20-30 seconds. Trust me when I say it was not the way I wanted this story to end.

Scion that's a heck of DiD. Shame it ended the way it did but those are the risks you take with DiD.

THanks for convincing me to give X3 a shot, my humble merchant is going to turn into one heck of a pirate.

I think I speak for all of us when I say this thread has bought laughs and inspiration, even the way it ended. I'm tempted to have a fresh go at the Unholy Traitor start (perhaps DiD?) and cite the three eyes as my primary foe. I rather doubt it could be half as exciting as reading this though.

As for your next one Scion...I once played the Sentient Xenon start in TXM (X3R), now that's an interesting way to play, beset on all sides by the commonwealth and even hunted by the rest of the machines. I don't know if an applicable mod exists for TC (anyone?) but if it does it might be well worth your time and creative approach :-)

And now I have a problem...do I carry on my Humble Trader game in my bid to finally complete the Hub...or do I carry on my Pirate game and lay waste to all Paranid Sectors? Answers on a postcard please! :P

Hmm. It sounds interesting. Even amusing. How would one progress, though? I mean without even the ability to hire mercs it seems like there would be some very difficult battles. I suppose it IS possible to take out capital ships with hundreds of assimiliated fighters, but ... even equipping them would require a tremendous amount of piracy.

As to the other, how about your humble merchant finally gets fed up with being prey and goes on the hunt? :pirat:

Sentient Xenon felt like your race ranks improved faster than in other starts, so finally getting high enough to trade and hire mercs should be possible, and I get the feeling the Pirates or more likely the Yaki wouldn't turn up their noses at a Xenon that'll do their dirtier jobs for them :P

And whilst I have given serious thought to turning my Humble Trader into the terror of the trade lanes I intended for that save to be my attemp to FINALLY complete the Hub and get the PHQ, 2 things I have yet to complete, even in my previous saves. Plus I was out of the X lopp for 6 months or so and have gone straight from 2.6 to 3.0, meaning that Balance of Power and A New Home are both complete unknowns to me, I haven't even checked the spoilers to see what they're about :) All those things considered I think I'll keep everybody on side for that one.

Heh, I already shot the Sentient AI start. After all, Scion's story made my start my own. I'm already through the first two chapters and I'm still alive, although barely.

Here are my made up rules for my "Lost AI" DiD, if you are interested:
(Consider this a Sneak Peak if you will, I'll be posting the first chapters in Creative soon)
Rules:

- Dead is Dead
- Start: Rogue AI (custom)
- Starting sector: Freedom's Reach
- Assets: #deca.fade
- Credits: 0 cr
- Starting scenario: By some freak workings of fate, a single tiny Terraformer unit (#DVJ07BRX) lost it's connection to it's CPU ship, and was left to it's own devices. Floating dead in space for who knows how long, it suddenly came to life. Failsafe autonomous systems and learning subroutines engaged, and the unit now has full control of it's actions. However, by severing the link to the CPU ship, the unit no longer has access to the mainframe's knowledge base. The unit's memory banks are empty save for some fragments, jumbled data and some basic programming, so the whole universe is alien, and has to be re-discovered. Armed with only it's beaten up #deca.fade and newfound learning subroutines it starts is journey towards it's destiny.
- Main goal: Find the CPU ship and find out what happened.
- Starting race reps are 0. Being an unknown ship with unknown FoF codes, the races are not openly hostile, but very wary. On the other hand the Terrans are on a hunt for AGI and will shoot on sight, so are the Khaak and Xenon who shoot at anything anyway.
- No EVA suit (being an AI and all that), so repairs only at shipyards and no claiming ships via spacewalk
- No tranfering to another ship unless it's also of Terraformer design (#deca or Xenon), because only those are capable of storing the AI.
- This is a heavily roleplayed DiD, especially in the beginning.
You have to create the stating scenario with the cheat script but don't use it afterwards. According to the rules, you start in Freedom's Reach, approx. 20 km away from the gate and the Trading Station. You start in a #deca.fade with only 42% hull, no shields, no nothing. No softwares except Navigational command 1 and Fight command 1-2. Also, your character (the AI) is not allowed to know about stuff that is not in the Encyclopedia. You first have to observe or come in contact with something in order to "know" it. You'll have to roleplay this one, but can also be left out if deemed too complicated.

It will be insanely hard, especially in the beginning, since you have no shields, weapons or anything else and the #deca ships use Experimental Terran weapons and Terran missiles. Also, as an AI you are only allowed to transfer to ships with Terraformer origin (#deca or Xenon). So getting a new personal ship and equipping it might prove tricky. You ARE allowed to buy ships and acquire them in other ways except EVA claim, just thought I point that out.

These rules are not set in stone, I just though I share them to give some inspiration or something. Looking forward to your next adventure, dude :)

I've had a thought about playing as a clone of Scion, seeking revenge for the destruction of it's originator. Of course, it's not a perfect clone, but one with some slightly damaged DNA.

Do you mind at all?
