N4N and BlueSwede.
Teladi space sell them.
N4N,
Sell your weapons and shields. Don't hit anything.
Buy a power plant stick it in Greater Profit next to the crystal factory.
You have to stock it yourself and sell @ 8.00.
Won't take long to earn enough to buy another, stick that one in Seizewell near the gate and sell @10.00.
Then an ore mine near the power plant and sell @110.00.
Be flexible and adjust accordingly.
When all is up and running you'll earn a sizeable regular income.
You will need alot of credits to finish the plot, so while buying, -preferably in this order- shields, guns, equipment, 1big missile, speed and very important- if you dogfight- rudder enhancements, add to your empire occasionally.
You can only install guns and shields into an empty slot.
Shields come in 1, 5, 25, and 125 sizes. The 125 sells at over 600,000 credits, if you can find them.
TTD.I think it is Argon 1 you should be looking for, then the goners.
Then make sure you've got about 40.000 cr before doing the next part.
When you finish the plot, there is one thing left to do. If you decide so, the universe is a much safer place.
Good luck. and make lots of profits, you will need them.

3 blondes found a magic lamp.
The Genie said:"I will grant each of you 1 wish "
1 said, "I wish I were smarter." She became a redhead.
2nd said, "I wish I were smarter than her." She became a brunette.
3rd blonde said, "I wish I were smarter than both of them." So she became a man.

@ geoffrey
There's a lot of useful info there.
Cheers.
Is there only ever one large ship per sector?
That is all I seem to see,such as the Phoenix in Argon Prime.
The captains of those ships get quite ratty with me.
EDIT
Found the goners...

My pleasure.
TTD.
Sorry, I misinformed you. It should have been the Titan in Argon Prime to talk to first, then the goners. It's reads like you have already done this, by the "ratty" comment.
The whole plot can be screwed if you don't do things in correct order.
So think before you destroy anything vital on your travels.
Some sectors will contain many more than 1 large ship.
You will need a little more cr. than you have mentioned.
Just mentioning it to save a boring trip.
This is working from the original disc, I don't know if it has been fixed in the superbox.

Make sure you can at least land at Paranid stations before progressing.

afaik the game has only been enhanced to run on Windows OS's up to w7 64 bit.
No other plot or game alteration has been made other than allowing the game to run on the larger resolutions of today's monitors.
You still have a choice of running in 16bit or 32 bit screen,but my W7 32bit screen is reverted to windows basic format(automatically) to run btf in 32bit screen mode.

No, it would not be possible, because anyone doing so would be breaking the law and would be banned from the forums.TEA_Cypher wrote:I know it may be a bit dodgy, but is it possible for some one to scan and PDF the manual in English and stick it on here? As my guess would be that Egosoft no longer have the original if they havent put it in the SBox.

I was going to do that, but I asked an Egosoft official first &TEA_Cypher wrote:I know it may be a bit dodgy, but is it possible for some one to scan and PDF the manual in English and stick it on here? As my guess would be that Egosoft no longer have the original if they havent put it in the SBox.
the answer is it's definately a breach of copyright to do so.
The manual says :
(c) 1999 THQ & EGOSOFT. All rights reserved. Developed by EGOSOFT. Published by THQ.
Actually looking at the manual I've got, it's not exactly comprehensive like the ones that followed.
2 small pages of 'install & starting up'
2 small pages of 'the story of the ultimate dream'
7 sparse pages of key control descriptions
6 sparse pages of setup/mapping menu descriptions
1 page trouble shooting
2 of credits
23 of pictures & brief description of technology (lasers/shileds etc), one per page
2 of ship/station descriptions (weren't very many in XBTF) & radar symbols.
Then Italian & Spanish versions of the same thing.
Most of that has been put into XBTF guides elsewhere on this forum anyway.
Maybe ES themselves will post up a digital version at some point
(assuming they've got rights to anything other than the German version that apparently is in the SuperBox).

I took a look at the oldest pages on this forum,hoping for some BTF posts.
I think I found one in about 10 pages from November 2002.
The rest was either waffle or interesting looks into the upcoming technology of the time,plus a little of X-tension and questions about the then release date of X2.
So where are all the old BTF related threads,from before then?
@pjknibbs...(sp.? sorry)
Did not realise you'd been around these forums so long.

Um, I thought there was more than I found looking through the FAQ,
thought I'd seen at least a keyboard map link recently as well,
I guess the most basic info for playing the game would be that.
A / Z = speed up/down
TAB = Turbo
Backspace = Stop ship
Q / W = Roll
T = Lock on target
E = Lock on next enemy
PgUp = Next target
PgDn = Previous Target
F = Load cago lock
O = Open/close cargo hatch
Ctrl = Fire laser
M = Choose missile
L = Launch missile
I = Target info
C = Hail target
S = Ship status
P = Pilot status
F1 = Cockpit view
F2 = External view
F3 = Remote-control camera
shift L = 'Redeem insurance contract' (i.e. load a saved game if you have insurance)
shift Q = Quit game
shift P = Pause
numpad keys 4 / 6 = rotate camera
numpad keys 8 / 2 = zoom camera in / out
All/most of that is true for all X games.

Correct. Pre X2 content is only available to registered users, and the site does not allow new registration, which make useless to recommend the site to new players.exogenesis wrote:Didn't someone already say about the Agonopedia problem

Information gleaned independently from a copyrighted source is your own work and does not generally break a copyright. So if you want to go in the game and detail all the info you find, feel free. That's most likely what Argonopedia did.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

ARGONOPEDIA LINK
You might be able to use this link...http://argonopedia.ppcis.org/sectors.php
If not then if you have been a member in the past,but don't remember your password...
list members alphabetically
select the name that is most likely the one you registered with.
When you find the correct one,it will list you e-mail address ,if you had allowed it.
you can now go to the log in screen and do a "forgot password" request.
This sends the new password to your e-mail.
You then activate it.
After that you are in.

This forum didn't exist before then--there were a set of boards that were hosted by THQ, the publisher of X-BTF and X-Tension, but those were closed down when these forums were created in November 2002 (which is why you'll find a lot of people with join dates around then--their usernames were transferred from the old forums).TTD wrote: So where are all the old BTF related threads,from before then?
