[SHIP] Terran Mole M6

As promised, here's a new Terran ship: the Mole aka Grinder.

This ship was designed by the Terran Military to do deep reconnaisance tasks with an ease. It's relatively fast, though it wasn't the primary aspect in the making of this ship. On the other hand, it's got plenty of shields to make it ideal for the job.

The Mole originally got it's name after it shape, though not long after its introduction in the Terran Military it earned a new name: The Grinder. Obviously it stick to it because of it unique, rotating nose.

In the meantime I clicked the submit button instead of the preview, so this post went online prematurely. Anyways...

A few things to know:

Code: Select all

ship class: M6
max speed: 176
max shield: 5x200MJ
max steering: 8.8
power: 3250
hull: 51000
can dock up to 1 M3
To trigger the mission:
  • Your terran rank has to be at least Warrior of Io
    Have to be in either Grand Exchange or Zyarth's Dominion
    Have to have a Jumpdrive
    ...and maybe some balls, since X1000 complained in the Artellia topic that it's way to easy just to go somewhere with a truckload of money, and get an M6 in exchange. So, it's a bit more difficult this time.

Excellent-looking ship. Why exactly did you decide to make the nose rotate?

I was just curious whether it can be done, I guess. I mean, the whole ship was designed around this question. So I actually only found out that it can be done after I had finished all the modelling work.
That big, round nose would be pointless without it rotating anyways :)

Hi puffneki,

Love the ship. Tried to install on a new game start and I get a completely white screen after load.

Looking at the mods folder there is no dat file. I tried to extract from the spk file and got a compression error.

Probably me but I thought I'd give you the heads up.

Running 2.6 with the latest X Plugin Manager and the game runs as normal if I remove the mod.

the holes in the frontpart that move, are they guns? If not, did you know that you could have made a giant gattling out of that?^^ It's not very difficult once you know how to implement&animate ships.

nice ship, just a little bit unusual design for terrans imo. texturing and model also seem quite good (ok the big seam on the bottom is a bit obvious), kudos to you^^

Those holes are exactly what they look like: gun muzzles. And the lasers/beams/whatever are actually rotating together with them. So, yeah, I know it can be done, that was the whole point making it this way :) Although finding out how to do it to make it actually work in-game wasn't so obvious, for me atleast.

I opened it now in the SPK Explorer to make sure all the files are there, and there doesn't seem to be any problem. In fact, before I uploaded it, I deleted all the relevant files from my X3TC intallation dir, to be sure that all the necessary files go to the right place, and they did.

Try to delete it and redownload it, maybe the package got corrupted somehow during your first download attempt. If it still won't work, then I have no idea what could be wrong. Lets wait and see, maybe others will run into the same problem, and then I try to look into it.

Oh, that...well, yeah, i was actually thinking about trying to make it to work like that, but than i realized that then i have to deal with the animation easing in when the rotation starts, and easing out, when it ends.
It wouldn't be too nice if it just suddenly started then stoped without any kind of transition.
So i dumped the idea.
But if you can direct me to a tutorial or something that deals with animations (and controlling them) in X3 then i'll try to make it work like that.[/quote]

i can't seem to find the source files for the ship, so the only thing i could do is to extract them from the cat file. hope it helps nonetheless.

it includes the Split Artellia as well.
