I'm happy to see the big text and colour tags didn't work. There is no need to shout. If there is any information on the release, it will be posted. Until then, there is no point in asking

What's the difference? It's enabled .. but to be socially accepted it is required to be used. Imagine all your friends, and maybe some foes -> "HaHa, lôôk at that nôôb, no achievements!"

Cruel social world ... :/

However, Steam is fine for those that like it. Noone forces anyone to use it, and if a game requires Steam at all costs -> not to be bought. Simple. :)

I like this, for some reason the backing of my DVD is starting to come away from the plastic disk. I've never had a problem with steam and like it for the fact that no matter what I can always re-download my games if I need too.

If I register it with steam does that mean I can make a back up of it??

As far as I can tell, registering it with Steam is exactly the same as buying a copy from Steam, except it isn't costing you anything.

I believe Steam lets you back up your downloads. If so, yes, you'd be allowed to backup the Steam copy.

I hope 2.6 will take also some new plot, personally I'd pay for DLC to extend the life of X3TC: currently I'm still on the hub, but I guess soon or later all the plots will be over :-(

I don't understand all this concern about steam: this paltform is growt a lot in the last 2-3 years: I've installed it only to play HL2 and it was quite a crap: starting by default with windows, problems of connections, block on (unwanted) upgrades.... but now it works like a charm

I guess that a PC connected to internet with DSL and only legar softwares installed shouldn't work about having this software installed

My previous concerns about spending money without having "nothing" in change (box, DVD, manual....) is changed when my little children started to play at freesbee with my older DVD games or I finished the place for boxes and other: now I'm putting all my steam games on my 1.5 TB HD: no more codes, scratched DVD, lost manual .....

but as I've said those concerns have been from me too 2 years ago....

that's my 2 cents....

bye

Ah, the usual irrational Steam paranoia..

Now I can completely understand a dislike of the system from anyone who actually had any issues with it, but when you see people proclaiming their refusal to have anything to do with Steam based entirely on the fact that they heard that some person somewhere they've never had any contact with allegedly once had a problem with it.. well, you have to wonder about the mentality there.

Ahh the pre-patch paranoia... kinda missed it.

Its really interesting that no matter what, always a lot of ranting, speculating and the occasional nonsense takes over a news thread. Of course me being an optimist I kinda find something good in most things and usually emphasise the good aspects of stuff that is thrown at me, so that's probably why I don't get most of the posts.

Seriously, none of the posted reasons to object Steam are valid, with the exception of "because I can".
Let me summarise things:

- you can have a free patch WITHOUT having to have Steam
- you can register your copy of TC in Steam for free, note that it does not say you MUST ;-)
- you can install Steam and if its not working, or whatever you can remove it again. Note: your DVD Copy will not get confiscated or destroyed in the process.
- you can just ignore all that.

Now why on earth is this a bad thing :?

MFG

So I recently purchaced X3 Gold from Fry's about a week ago.

I tried to register the codes on steam and it's saying invalid.

What am I doing wrong?

What you're doing wrong is jumping the gun a bit! This is news that it's going to happen, not an announcement saying it's released!

Would be nice if that information was in the 1st post. would likely avoid many unnecessary posts :)

Thanks for your response though Tim.

Yeah can anyone put a "This month" (April) or "next month" (May) date onto 2.6 release? Nothing specific just a month?? :D and if we're mega lucky an indication - Beginning /middle /end of that month?? :o

Fitst, brilliant news on the next update! Outstanding work ego, long may it continue.

Second, I have a question about steam. If a dvd owner registers the game on steam, in order to access achievements, would a dvd owner still have the ability to launch the game from the traditional DVD installation (without achievements), without being tied to steam.

I mention this for two reasons, one being that steam offline mode is very touchy and two being steam is just another background task on top of an already very cpu intensive game.

Don't get me wrong, I have a steam account already with a few games attached, I would just like to know for sure before I was (possibly) tempted.
