My First Corvette

Post by Torothin »

Im slowly building up my merchant fleet. I have about 6 dolphins running best buy/sell orders. While sometimes throwing up the jolly rodger. I am eyeing at purchasing a Corvette. I want something that can handle itself solo and is good at all around combat and capturing ships. Any suggestions? I have been eyeing the Nemesis, but have access to argon, boron, and teldari corvettes. Which one shall I choose?

Terran M6 Springblossom is my main craft, you need to follow Terran quest plot to reach Aldrin then explore it to buy it

The SnoozeBlossom is all well and good if you are not looking to ever have a challenge.

The Teladi M6 has really nice shields and plenty of guns all around (both good qualities for 'holding your own'), a decent cargo capacity is nice for missiles (or *gasp* trading LoL) but she is REALLY slow.

The Centaur is a nice all around ship. Everyone will be screaming HeavyCentaur or HCent Prototype...but I am just giving you the M6-lites. The Centaur has some pretty gun-fire animations too LoL.

The Paranid one is quick, a nice thing for spacewalk-boarding, but it is rather lacking in the turret department (not a good thing if you plan on going without escorts).

It is really up to you though. Of the three I would go with the Teladi M6, but I use fighter escorts and such. The Centaur is likely the best for you from what I can assume.

Flew a Springblossom for way too long. Then I captured a Hyperion, useing a Springblossom of course, and now that's my main ride.

What is it about springblossoms that people say its no challenge? Im confused on the matter and don't have time to look at an excel sheet and try to compare them. Do they have the fastest speed, greatest weapons and shielding. How does it compare to a M7? Do you think I could finish some of the harder missions with it like the late FF ones? How does it compare against the 2 Atf m6 ships he vidar and Vali? These might be noobish questions but I'm new to this game.

The Springy has M/AM launchers which means he'll never run out of energy. He has a top speed of 360 which means that your shields get low you can zoom away from danger in an instant. While it's a great ship I also prefer the Hyperion because it has a great missile selection.
Another great M6 is the Heavy Centaur (Prototype, if you capture one), it has really awesome weapon selection making it quite a versatile ship which i use for capturing or disabling ships (mostly Xenons that I want to capture).

Since I don't feel like doing the Terran plot atm my personal M6 is a Skiron. Even with my really lousy combat skills I can take on several other M6'es plus fighters in quick succession.

Skiron is probably a bad choice as a FIRST corvette because of its extremely poor manoeuvrability--takes a lot of getting used to after flitting around in an M3!

keep your eyes open for second-hand corvettes, you'll find the offer sometimes on shipyards.

I would go for the Centaur because it has decent cargo bay so you can also trade and carry a few things with you (spare jumpenergy is always handy) and has good turretcoverage for missiledefense - missiles are your biggest foe because your turningrate is to slow to shoot em down yourself. Teladi M6 is more of a slug of steel. It doesn't has a great weapongenerator but if you use EBC that isn't necessary. It also has the same good turretcoverage as the centaur.
I wouldn't buy a heavy centaur as first corvette.
H. Centaur Prototype is out of question because you would have to capture it first (annoying the argon).

he sayed he dident have acces to split ships (i guess cauze of rep) but geting it takes a hour :P for the first m6 i would higly recomend the heavy dragon for it 10 forward mounted turrets and complete awsome stopping power, also it has a nice speed and shielding is a bit low compared to others (3x 200 mj) this is prolly my favourite corvette ship when ur leaving springy out of the mix. think about it, going in with cigs or ISR ripping a m7 shields to 50% on first enegy pass and switching to 2 hepts u wil be full energy in 5 seconds, while u continue to rapid fire anyfighters around. i love this baby :P
ship? what ship? i see no ship? WHO SPAWNED THAT DESTROYER!!!!!

the otas skiron m6 is the best in my opinion
good shielding (5 *200mj)
good weapons (8 main and 6 turrets)
good speed (149 m\s max)

The Springblossom is by no means invincible or unfair.

The Springblossoms speed is off set by limited shielding and other things, and although it is fast, it is not extremely manueverable. It tends to drift alot in turns and if you are going to fast and try to turn to late you will slam into the ship you are attacking.

Saying that just because the ship can use ammo based weaponry doesnt give it an unfair advantage either. Lots of ships can use ammo based weapons. The Springblossom's weapon energy is also fairly limited, just few shots with PSSCs and its depleted.

If you think that the Springblossom doesnt make things challenging, try attacking an M7, M2, or M1 armed with FAAs or Kha'ak capitals armed with Gamma Kyons. You can even have a fight on your hands with lots of Xenon fighters armed with PBEs.

It only has 8 frontguns but a 4gun topturret... yes it's a nice ship but it has few cargospace and isn't a good allrounder.
Very combat orientated (like it should be ;))

That's a bad comparison, isn't it?
The Springblossom is by no means invincible or unfair.
Please don't let this become into the 10000th thread to discuss wether the Springblossom is invincible or not...
Also the OP tells you that he don't has access to it so it's not an option!

 *wipes the tears away*
If you don't get why I am laughing you really DO need the Springy...

On Topic: I went and flew the three M6s I mentioned earlier...for someone new to the heavy ships [read: non-fighters] I would suggest the Centaur. It is the most forgiving. It is not a pathetic easy-button ship (like the spr...nevermind) but it makes life easy enough that you will not immediately detest heavy ships, hehe.

Good hunting to you.

FAAs are an effective deterent against the Springblossom, and there is nothing preventing any other M6 from attacking capital ships.

As far as ship to ship, M6 vs M6. The Springblossom doesnt carry anymore weapons or have any tactical superiority to any other M6 other than its speed.

It has less shielding than most M6s, less weapon energy, and also has less weapon compatibility.

So, I think that its advantages and disadvantages are well balanced, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, but again this thread is not a debate about the Springblossom.

Just to be clear, I didnt say that there was anything wrong with flying another M6, I actually like the Centaur which I consider a well balanced ship, and I really like the look of the Heavy Centaur.

For the OP, I just recently discovered that the Heavy Hydra is another nice ship to fly. I took out several M6s and a Xenon Q with one. The Terran Katana is also not bad. I flew that in my original game before I started over. The only issue with it, it is difficult sometimes to find enough weapons to equip it.

I just capped my first Hyperion a few days ago, and I agree that it is the best M6. It's the only M6 that has docking bays for two fighters, has adequate shielding (5 x 200) & a good weapon/missile selection (although I really wish it could equip PSGs). My main ship used to be the Deimos before I switched. Now I only use the Deimos to cruise Xenon sectors or take out M1/M2.

The centaur is a great first corvette- well-balanced, not likely to be killed by a surprise attack, well armed and sporting a reasonable speed. I flew one of these for a long time on my first runthrough of the storyline and it served me brilliantly until that fateful day when I had to sacrifice it to help a certain freighter escape some terraformer drones during the plotline (RIP, Avenging Star... :headbang: ) Mind your weapon loadout though, 'cos CIGs drain the centaur's energy like nobody's business. Maximum 4 in the front, I would say. Careful handling, and you will never regret buying a centaur.

On a side note, the nemesis' low profile could prove an interesting ride. *grabs kestrel, sets course for paranid prime, accelerates, hits station, dies*
Allergic to work.

Well but the real point here is the damage output...
The Hyperion has 12 frontguns (8 main + 4 turrets). However, its energy is depleted long before a K goes down.
The Springblossom, on the other hand, uses rather (very strong) ammo based weponery and has a big cargo hold. Its offensive capacity is only rivaled by the Vidar ...and that only if you don't count the flak turrets of the Blossom.
The Springblossom is faster than anything that could pose a threat and the flak is rear-mounted, so following the sucker is a bad idea. The 3x200 shileds count for more than they would in other M6, the Blossom takes considerably fewer hits due to excessive speed.
There is one single disadvantage and that is its look ...the Blossom is BUTTUGLY and i refuse to sit in something like that!

That's why i love the Poisoned Paranid start so much. Your Hyperion can reach a speed of 260something if you are patient enough to roll the dice until you get that kind of overtuning.

If i had to buy an M6 i would get me a Heavy Nemesis, but there's allways that one Vidar and after that i'm rich enough for a Panther.
Have fun: Gala Do.

Last night I was going to capture a Orca from the stupid Boron and my attack fleet was attacked by a Boron M6 patrol, in the end I captured a Hydra.

Is the Hydra any good or should I sell it to get a Centaur?

This is my first M6 and I havn't heard anyone recomend the normal Hydra.

man from what i remember back in reunion,the most used corvet i flew was by no argument the centaur.I think it is the only corvette small enough,sausage like shape and also good steering,combined whit a good strafe skill from the player makes it a verry good "lasertower" if you know what i mean.My surprised was that in TC it remained the same{im talking abot normal cent not heavy}

o and one question:what about the poisoned paranid start?it has all the plots enabled like the hub,phq ,FF missions, and the rest of em?if it has any unplayable plot please tell me.
