Getting desperate.
I'm starting to give up hope, my computer continues to crash if I try to play any game yet works fine for everything else. I've used PC pitstop and found no problems, and DXdiag comes out without any problems so what could be causing this.

The things you see when you haven't got a gun!!!

*snicker* Thats the system specs, now I need the software you have installed..
I do not doubt that your DX said that there was nothing wrong, did'nt have to post the log containing no info of value (MS = crap)
the info I need is:
Firewall and Antivirus software..
and the games you have trouble with.
Oh.. and update your Nvidia driver.. the version I've found most stable lately is the 4109 driver (but I'm running XP and I'm not going to nvidia.com to check)
oh.. and your driver version now is: 3082

Maybe too much heat
After I installed my GeForce4 I was having random crashes myself. I solved the problem by taking the side door of my computer case off to let the system cool more effectively. It stopped my frequent & random crashes dead in their tracks. Let me know if this works for you.

Err i don't know anything about computers, i suggested a bios update cause it worked for me my last comp (Asus) crashed now and again after flashing the bios it was much better,it took me a week to work up the courage to do it cause if not done correctly it can be bad news.SW-880 wrote:BIOS????

Whoooooaa!!!!!

As Robroy has hinted....if you're not sure of how to go about updating/flashing your bios DON'T DO IT!
My son has just recently 'updated his bios'....

I found it quite......interesting

Perhaps a better aproach would be to start at something simple....try shutting down any programs running in the background....maybe even disconecting your computer from the web to start with (while computer is switched off)......Then Switch computer on, shut down firewalls, antivirus programes etc. and any other programs that are not critical to the running of windows, or that you don't need etc...etc.
Try your games....
If that doesn't work at least you know it's not those programes that's causing the trouble.
There's quite a few programs that I use in the background that can crash some of my own games....did the games run ok before you installed recent programes?

Any luck with the crash prob ? one of the reasons i purchased an Asus mobo it was very easy to flash the bios cause they provide three ways to do it,all user friendly
You could try d/loading Sandra standard it is a diagnostic tool it pretty much checks all aspects of your machine and gives you tips on how to fix problems that otherwise would need a bit of know how
as i said before i know didly squat about comps but the above progy has helped me a great deal

When recovering from a crash, it is best to have a procedure.. Firstly, since crashes sometimes cause the nesesity of reformatting and reinstalling your OS [whatever incarnation of windows you are using] . IT is best to know your windows registration KEy, your systems statistics, where all the origional copies of your drivers are, where the updated ones are [and back them up - where possible]. IF you have a DSL, ISDN connection, or cable connection - you may want to shut this down and turn off your PC. Then cmpletely unhook from the network. Next shut down all background tasks and progman [the task scedualer that runs under some versions of windows] from the start. Next , check to see if you have enough RAM memory [Random access memory] as well as Disk-drive space on your computer. If you exceed the requirements by more than 10%, your fine - however, if you have the system settings set to allow Windows to manae your disk cache size and /or if you have not allocated enough Vram for use for the program, it will crash. IF you are up against the limits of your current disk-drive and find yourself getting extreamly slim on room in this respect, you might have to find another HD to either stick the operating system on , or to put the App's on.. However, if you have more than 1 gigabyte above these requirements for Diskdrive space, then I would look at the Ram.. Do you have more than 64 MEgs but not over 128 MEgs - you are boarderline in this respect. I would consider more RAM.. Keep in mind, the more so-called "Advanced" your operating system is for windows, the more of a blooty pig it is in terms of memory consumption.. Xp is roumored to require as much as 64 MEGS.. That sucks.. Next - check to see if by loading too many processes, you are starting the crash yourself [if too many programs are running, this will slow the machine down or even crash it becasue there is too many programs and too little resoarces] there is supposed to be a method in the system.INI file for also allocating more resoarces.. Check into this as this will also effect your systems operation if some other App has reset these values.. if it has , alter them to whatever your system will tolerate without overalocating logical resoarces more than the pyshical resoaces that are available [you might have to play with these values just a little bit.. ] IT can be frustrating - if you intend to put more RAM in your machine , find out what kind of Ram it can take and bank it out as far as your budget and motherboard presets will allow - this alone can sometimes speed system operations and improve the speed of the machine.. Otherwise, if a program is causing an incompatability, shut the offender down as soon as you have found it.. If it is your firewall, try re-configuring the firewall if it is an internet program to allow it to operate, otherwise, if it isnt and there is a incompatiblility of another sort, you might want to completely unhook from the net while running "X", with the exception of "XOL".. I have dealt with my fair share of computer SNAFU's in the past.. IT might also be that your video drivers are not quite up to it, and you might want to get an updated driver.. you will also want to check to see what resoaces are being used while XTension is running.. hope this helps..
