I think you need to undock, then re-dock the ships; if I recall correctly, the EQ auto-upgrade feature doesn't work on already docked ships when you turn it on.
Also, I dunno if they fixed it yet, but don't dock any vessels you already have upgrades for. I think it still deducts the money from you, even if the ship has any upgrades. This is assuming you put it in auto mode.
I've used it in auto-mode witout much trouble; just be cautious with the expensive upgrades (IE leave them off. Though most of the expensive extensions and such are only really useful for player-piloted ships anyway.)
Hope that helps.

X3R Noobish questions
Hello, I'm still fairly new to the game and I have a few questions.
1. Where can I purchase and train Marines?
2. What are the controls for positioning stations?
3. Is there a way to make your fleet jump with you?
Thanks

you can find marines at military bases, or marine training stations (one such example is in home of light)
stations are positioned with the numpad (8, up, 4, left, 6, right, 2, down, and 5 will snap to an object), also the other keys, 7, 9, 1, 3) will turn your station on an axis... play with them to figure it out
you can make your fleet jump with you if they are set to protect you, and you jump using the navigation commands (shift c, nav, jump to sector). If not all of them can jump, it will let you know.
Also, you can set your fleet to protect you, and give them a low autojump distance, and then just the shift j command. they wont jump immediately, but they will follow you.

Re: X3R Noobish questions
In vanilla X3R, you don't - there are no marines.Vacquero wrote:1. Where can I purchase and train Marines?

good catch, i missed that
edit
that also means no autojump settings - the protect/follow command and using the nav jump commands are the only option in that case.

I'll keep this one in spoilers just in case ...
Anyways, probably no need to put it all in spoilers, but well. Hope anyone knows what's up with those two questions.

<rant>Whoever thought it's a great idea to follow the main plot's example of screwing around with reputation (and for no obvious reason in this case) needs his head examined. I'm talking about the Sohnen missions here. It's really fun to let people kill an Argon M1 and be brought down to confirmed insurgent level, right? I bet it is ... NOT.
In a game where action and relations are ultimately up to the player, having this kind of forced reputation dropdown with no alternative choice is just stupid. I hoped I could do at least the XTM missions, but alas, I'll pass, thanks, but no thanks.</rant>
The other thing is, how are you supposed to buy the Sohnen ships? I see those offers at the Sphere BBS, but if I choose one, it says they now gracefully give me the right to use it, but it doesn't appear anywhere.
And one last thing, what's the deal with those ship parts getting offered at Otas HQ? I bought some, so now they sit in my freight bay, but I have no idea whatsoever what they're for.

Hi Gesta
no need to keep those in 'spoiler' imo... anyway:
1- there are different ways to progress in sohnen plot, and it can be done without losing so much reputation with Argon.
2- sorry, that is a known bug and here is the fix http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/showp ... stcount=30
3- ...but you have to admit they make for quite classy ballast!
Joking - i suspect they have no use unless someone asks you for those.

Hi, thanks for your answers.

Heh, ok, guess I'll store them somewhere. If Stahn is right and they indeed come in handy at some point, then all the better.
Probably not, yes.stemardue wrote:Hi Gesta

That is good to hear, I'll be on the lookout. I was probably overreacting a bit, but well, I was pissed1- there are different ways to progress in sohnen plot, and it can be done without losing so much reputation with Argon.

Thanks for the link, applied.2- sorry, that is a known bug and here is the fix http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/showp ... stcount=30

Stuck on plot
Can anyone help?
Story so far:
Main Storyline - upto point where I enter Ocracoke's Storm for Drone mission - left it at this point to trade and build up assets.
Sohnnen Missions - fetch and carry completed to point where I've followed Aran to Goner Shipyard and received message to dock to start Goner Missions. Left it there to trade and build up assets. After many hours gameplay I returned to dock and start mission. On entering BHS sector noticed Goner Shipyard mising from Sector Map. However, flew there and there it was. I docked but nothing happened - no message and no mission!
Could problem be fighting rank? This had fallen to FIGHTER. Currently clearing Xenon Sectors to improve rank and now up to MILITANT. But still no message or mission on docking.
Am I thinking along the right lines or does anyone know what else I need to do to continue Goner Missions?
Would be grateful for any ideas.
Edit: Thought I had put this into the XTM thread. Moderator please move.

UT trader requirements
The manual link is on the first post is broken.
Great mod, I am enjoying it so far.
WHY O WHY, can't my capped Centaur MkIII become a UT? In fact, why is there ANY restriction on what ship you want to use as a UT, however idioticly bad the choice, as long as it meets the reqs?
IMHO there is really really NO reason whatsoever in blocking some ship types as long as they can meet the requirements, realism be damned.
The lowdown;
Ship: Centaur MkIII (yes that's an M6)
Sector trader level: 10
Fight software 1 +2 - Check
Trade Software 1 + 2 + 3 - Check
Jump Drive - Check
Shields - Best shields, max amount installed
Weapons - None
Which part of the reqs am I not meeting now....
The freaking button for UT stays greyed out no matter what I do -even after an impressive bout of choice-word swearing. What really gets me upset that there is now ay of knowing BEFOREHAND whether or not the ship qualifies as UT. I had the same problem in Vanilla with the M5. Yeah so what if an M5 is a bad choice for UT; If I wanna - I gotta.
Additional question;
Which game/mod files govern the ships qualification for UT. If it's not scripted, I'll script the Centaur MkIII in that list myself.
