Why is everyone so surprised here? Every time a patch comes out, it takes Steam a bit longer to put it up for download...every time. And if your like me and like to tinker around with the game files, you can always check the game integrity incase you REALLY screw up. You get that oh so handy in-game interface to keep in touch with your pals without minimizing the game as well as a nice browser to boot. I can't say I have ever been denied "service" to my game collection, X3 included. Steam also gives you quick access to game trailers, demos, and the sort. Steam also allows us social outcasts to shut the windows, stay inside, and download our games without having to risk ruining our perfect monitor tan. And so many more "services" but you can dig their site for them all.
So, can you really say Steam is providing inadequate service?

Whats good for you isn't necessarily good for others, inadequate to others may be kosher to you. I respect your right to an opinion. Others obviously hold Steam to higher standards.
True enough I suppose. Considering Steam's service is free as long as you buy the game you want from them, not a bad deal to me. But I can sympathize having to wait. Like being able to hold your shiny new game but not being able to play it.
Much like life, everything has it's ups n downs.
But I still dont think its fair to say poor service is being delivered here. Its up to you to weigh the pros and cons. Steam hasn't changed its standard, this is how it has always been.
Unfourtunately its not game breaking its game fixing that 2 does so well. For those of us with the lower range rigs with less cash for our hardware playing x3 TC can lets say be very demanding on your systen to the point where combat becomes a no no cos your ram can't handle it.
i wish i could buy this game within 500 miles (yes miles) from my door.
on ebay it would cost me $75(CAD) shipping and $66 for the game.

www.gog.com - Great Old Games .... launched by the makers of The Witcher, great way to get digital copies of old games like Fallout 1, 2, MDK etc.
Steam should quit being so elitist and actually listen to their customers. I am waiting on the 2.0 patch and a good cockpit callback mod - in works thankfully, before playing x3 again.
Heck even Egosoft would have been great to include cockpits!

I agree. I'm a half life 2/portal fanatic and until now Steam has yet to fail me. I've noticed that the 3rd party applications they seem to have more issues with.
Personally, I think that if the game is available for purchase/download through steam, then we should be able to use either the normal patch, or a steam only patch should be provided that we can choose to download ourselves. I am not saying that Egosoft, or any other software developer is responsible for the difficulties with this. Quite frankly, Steam is behind on quite a few games, I have several that won't let me save my progress in the game because it is not the most current version of the game. At least one of them has been saying that for more than a month... If Steam wasn't so convenient for the actual acquisition of the games, I would not have continued to use it...
I didn't take the time to read through all 16 pages of posts on this topic, so if I am beating a dead horse or speaking about something that a moderator has requested we not talk about I apologize in advance...
I am kind of confused about the patch, I use steam and it shows version 1.4, but when I load a saved game its says 2.0? I also notice my Boreas has had its laser regen cut in half. So am I playing 1.4 or 2.0? I havent finished the Goner missions so I cant check to see if the mission are available. How can I confirm in game ? Make some UT's and see if they work :wink: ?
If, in game, it says 2.0 then you have got the patch. It's irritating that the Steam files describing the version number haven't been updated, but that isn't actually important. That Boreas laser-regen cut is extremely diagnostic - you have 2.0. No doubts.
Any more word on this? I just checked, still seems all 1.4ish on my end. The people who claim to have been updated, did that just come automatically from Steam? Or have I misread something?
In spite of dire warnings of potential problems from Moderators, Egosoft people and ordinary forumers alike, some have proved so impatient they insist on hacking the patch into Steam releases rather than wait until next Monday.
If you really want to risk it then the information should not take that much digging out. Be advised that this voids the warranty on your fleet.

That's pretty much what I thought.
I'm starting a new game anyway, but I guess there's no harm in me getting it kicked off just now, the patch is save-compatible isn't it?
I can wait a few days for the patch itself. I'm not going to hack the patch in and have to start over again if/when it mangles my saves.

If I understand correctly, it's a 'when' rather than an 'if'. BurnIt! seems to have said that hacking the DVD patch onto a steam install will make saves incompatible when the real steam patch arrives.
Note that little sympathy will be shown in tech support if you encounter this or any other issue after hacking the DVD patch onto steam.
