Thanks, Yeah the sweet spot is just above the Bridge (THe round thingy on the dorsal side of the Aran). No I did not find it myself, the autopilot did.

how much training do you need to break into the aran?

I'm early on in a recent game where I don't plan to cap anything cept for RE purposes so I haven't trained marines yet.

Think a bunch of 2*s can get me an aran? I hope its skin isn't as thick as a TL :D

its a M1 (as far as i know) get 5 stars mechanical.

Can anyone post some stats on that beast? meaning shield capacity/speed/weapons etc, you know the basics.

I boarded it with 5 5/5/5 trained marines with no prior boarding experience. I think you will at least need 5 stars in Engineering in order to avoid damage to the Aran during boarding.

It's got turrets, and weapons generators, but AFAIK it can't mount any guns.

i want my aran with impulse ray emiters hahahahah :) at least 1 lased on each turret :)

well aran is not a warship. but it has uses :)

IRE is too strong, Mosquitos are more than enough. In a barrage that launches 1k of them at once :)

i will post a guide of how to cap that thing ..

there is a catch. the ship wont show up in map, it will only show in your property screen, (i will try to RE-Eng. the thing to see if i can build it. without that detail.


Guide:

1. get 5 REALLY good marines (mechanical maxxed)
2. start looking for the thing with the unfocused jumpdrive
3. clear enemies if there is one close
4. i used my hyperion vanguard. (hide the transporter device in a docked ship (very important)
5. once cleared. get out in your space suit. and use repair laser on it (the ship seems to be pretty low on health (my marines are maxed in eng.)
6 you will eventually hear the combat music (the aran hates being repair it seems)
7 open your menu, under piracy, board.
8. the aran since its hostile and it has no shields. launch marines. (nearest target ARAN should be highlighted)
9 wait till the ship is captured.
10. in your property screen, look for the aram. transfer some Ecells jumdrive.
11. click on the ARAN , then tell doCk at. (this will work like a charm if you got a docking computer.
12. you will find yourself in the aram. and the vette should be in the hangar.
13. use return to normal space (shift J ) change ship , send the thing to repair. via property screen,


note. you will see the gravidar area but the ship is invisible, but i think we can RE....

more if i find a way to fix it. hehe
Not to put too fine a point but here are a few suggestions/clarifications for this guide.

Hindsight is 20/20 and if I had known what I know now I would not have wasted so much time looking for something that wasn't there because I had no idea what I was looking for in the first place :)

The two I have found were both inside 25km (probably closer to 10km) anyone find it further out than say triplex range?

1. get 5 5 Star marines
2. position yourself where you want this beast to show up when you return to the known universe (like near a shipyard or eq dock)
3. start looking for a huge ship that vaguely looks like the Goner Ozias with the unfocused jumpdrive, pop into the unknown sector and hit F2, zoom out and swing the view around, visually is the only way to find it.
You can also target an astroid and hit F3 and zoom out and swing the view around to cover the whole area quickly.
It's huge so you should see it quickly. No point in looking all over as it probably isn't there if you can't see it right away.
4. clear enemies if there are any close

many thanks palm911 - found the thing early after getting UFJD and had no idea what to do.

just one small 'glitch'

Went back with 5 x maxed out troops - 5 stars across the board.

They started cutting the hull then the message

"Cant penetrate the hull .... aborting mission ...wheeeeeeee"

I STG they were screened for space weed/fuel before launch.

Oh yea, it took me a long time to train them up to 5*, nearly as long as getting the silicone for the HUB. (but not quite)

Any ideas?

hmm.

you sent 5 stars mechanical marines to penetrate the hull? and they did not enter the ship?

i guess 2 things. They might need some boarding experience . (mines were 5 stars marines with over 40 succesfull boarding and went in the first try.. however i am not completely sure.

you also can : save game when you are about to launch the marines. and if they dont penetrate the hull, then reload. (make sure they are at 47k (thats trully a maxxed marine in mechanical , when they reach 47k. and they dont want to train anymore.

also it is important as someone noted, to have some training in eng. otherwise you might find a nasty surprise of then leaving the ship since it is heavily damaged. and at certain point they will just abandon the ship, (if ship health goes to low, its considered risky and they will abort)

Good point re experience, only have 6 x caps under my belt, will get another atmos lifter, etc and try again.

tried the save game gambit - but they just hung about in space, no message re 'we're going in'

Suppose it wasn't meant to be an easy task anyway, and I'm hoping that by the time I get the PHQ someone will have got a solution to the RE/'visible' thing.

Aran not a Warship !! LOL omfg its insane you use it and You cannot get hit/die, Also you can dock loads High end powerfully ships, and 1 M2 or M1(not sure which is the carrier) and have up all them ships as well.

Aran is the SINGLE most powerfull ship in the game when it comes to depolying forces in a single move.

CAN DEPLOY, and can ram ships like no other if you park him at a gate, with that speed. i think we cant ram much. . but. still it is not a warship by itself. :)

Dock 29 TMs ... each carrying 4 fighters... and a Raptor carrying 90... biggest fighter force in one jump :twisted: ... 206 fighters in total (if my maths is correct)

EDIT: Oh and for good measure 100k cargo worth of Keris drones (or Fighter Drone Mk IIs).

Yeah.. the only problem is they are a one-shot-deal... no re-use... but if you go a drone factory then you can use your docking bays for useful ships ;)

Having only reported the problem a few days ago, I wouldn't expect it to be fixed yet. I reckon you're looking at 2.1 for a fix.
