Deliver a ship mission - right ship? / wrong ship?
It looks like I managed to deliver, both the right ship and the wrong ship at the same time.
I took a mission to deliver a Caiman Super Freighter; this I did, and parked the ship at the correct station - timer still running, no message!.
There are two types of Caiman Super Freighter, but the script does not state a preference.

Thanks for the reply, but that save has gone - along with the job, should it happen again - I'll do what you've suggested and see if that changes the out come. None of the other deliver ship type X missions have required me to be anywhere near, an the only thing I could think of was that there are two versions of the same vessel.

There are two tanker and two superfreighter variants for every freighter. As far as the game scripts are concerned they are completely different so all you can do is hope you get lucky on which one is asked for.
egosoft should just remove those variants for this and several other reasons

Irrational factors are clearly at work.

or maybe convert them into 'vanguard' or 'sentinel' variants

Same problem here - it's not just you, its borked.
Yeah, this is really annoying. I took a mission to deliver a Demeter Super Freighter. Of course one can buy S, M, or L, but usually only S or M are available at most shipyards. Jumped to a station that sells them, bought it, put my jump drive and right # of energy cells via freight exchange into it, then hauled arse in my faster ship back to the target sector. Once there told the ship to jump in and dock at station, had it drop my jumpdrive in space on the way so I could fetch it, and awaited my shower of money when it docked.
No dice.
Ok, maybe it's too dumb to see the right ship has docked without me on it. So I dock myself. Swapped ships into it at the destination station, undocked, redocked. Still no message. Hmmm...maybe gotta reset things somehow, so exit the nearest gate, turn around, gate in, dock, and still nothing. Can't say anything but the usual "where's a shipyard, I'm an idiot?" questions to the correct individual at the station. Look back at the shipyard I bought it at, and of course the one I bought (S) is currently the ONLY Demeter Super Freighter available, so I'm not about to risk another hunk of cash trying to buy an M instead. Guess I just fail the mission and set up yet another equally broken universe trader bot.
Way to screw up something simple, Ego. (sigh) Yes, I'm on v1.4 and started the mission on v1.4. Bah. If the recipient somehow 'cares' about the S vs. M, why is it not listed in the orders for one thing, and for another, why does it just say they'll reward you the delivery fee plus "ship value"? Isn't that indication enough that the exact ship value/condition shouldn't matter???
No, I didn't post any of the DirectX reporting hoo-hah. If that affects mission scripting, I'm a monkey's uncle.
No dice.

It is not to do with S, M or L fitting out of the vessel, it has to do with the fact that there are two versions of some craft. As you found to your cost, there are 2 Demeter Super Freighters: (Not sure if this should have spoiler tags)
But the mission does not say which!
Edit: Typo
Spoiler
Show
Demeter Super Freighter Cost 907,935 Max speed 84.70 Freight 7,030 XL
Demeter Super Freighter Cost 1,639,833 Max speed 79.20 Freight 11,210 XL

Thanks, after I posted (vented?
) I checked the encyclopedia and sure enough there are two Demeter Super Freighter entries, with (overlapping) shipyards listed. So I tried one of the shipyards that wasn't from the 'other' DSF listing vs. the shipyard I'd used, and this time it worked. But the message didn't come until I had a second ship docked at the same station, so I almost thought it was fubared again.
Bottom line - won't be taking another one of those. Not worth the aggravation. Games can be challenging, but that sort of thing is just bad design, and no fun.

For starters, I do not understand why there are two versions of a ship designated by a single description. Someone suggested the renaming to "sentinel" and "vanguard", I agree this would not be suitable for TS's, but come on devs, why can't you put some marker/letter (N for Normal or whatever, and L for Large or something) in front of those Super Freighters? What's the problem anyway with the SF's description? Then, the shipyards' ship-products are still not grouped for easy selection, I mean TP-TS-TL are all mingled in a single list instead of groups,by category. Furthermore, the property list is grouped by sectors and not by ship type which is a MAJOR drawback in case of at most hundred ships. I expected X3:TC to be polished to(wards) the max, given the fact that it's the last of its kind at Egosoft. It's a pity, believe me, I just hope for future patches that would fix some common-sense things like these. You know, one couldn't expect for major functionality improvements when these minor things are still hanging. Sorry for the rant.
