I have been playing X3TC since its release. In the last week the game has started to behave weiredly.
ONCE i turn autopilot on for the first time, from whatever ship I am flying.. you cant turn it off for more than a few seconds before it turns itself back on again. It also remembers what the autopilot command i gave the ship. As an example.. say i gave the command autopilot through west gate patriarchs conclusion... then turned off autopilot for whatever reason.. after a few seconds the game will turn it back on and start heading fro the gate again!!!.. even if i wrestle with the controls turning autopilot off everytime it turns itself on.. head for a station and land... after a few seconds .. back on goes the autopilot.. the ship leaves the station and starts carrying out the autopilot task..

*sigh* Its a bit embarassing but I have found out the cause.. its funny how my first reaction was "grrr a bug in the software".. rather than it might be my own stupidity in doing something wrong
.
The ship I have been piloting around in the past week (the vidar) used to be part of a wing.. I had removed all the other ships from the wing so that I could just play around in the vidar. I had forgotten to remove the vidar from the wing. So... if I ordered my vidar to autopilot through a gate as an example ... I was in effect giving a wing command.. not a ship command.. i was then trying to turn off autopilot with shift + A.. which turned off the SHIP autopilot.. the game would then try to put autopilot back on because the wing command was still set to autopilot.
Sounds confusing i know.. but it all works now.. just removed the vidar from the wing.
