a few more KB for an avatar wouldnt be noticed in speed.

I'd say more around 120x120 , 80x80 just isn't enough realy for anything other than a short bit of text (ermm ie AVIS or EAGLE

but 10 to 12kb is definately more reasonable.

frankly some of the logos these days are nothing short of bill boards anyway, but then will people be willing to drop the marketing tool ?
Avatar OR signiture banner. then it really would be benificial to 56kers.

I prgrammed an option to switch off Avatar / Signature images last night. You can set this in your profile as soon as the files are uploaded.

There will be 3 options, you can then decide for each option whether you want to see them or not.
a) Images in Posts
b) Avatars
c) Signature Images

Will this do?

Right - and there is another good reason NOT to use that image as avatar: everyone who does will lose his/her right to use an avatar at all.

You might want to try uploading to and FTP site like I do...lots easier and you don't have that much trouble getting the image up on the board
