do not do a manual steam update!!!
I know Egosoft is not responsible for the t.a.g.s deal , but i wanted the X3 massive to know that if u do a manual update like i it screws with the tags system, and the code i got when i bought it did not work so U HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Now u might think i"m a dumb ass for doing it in the first place, i've done it b4 on a couple of games with no problems, and i did it with the last patch for t.c. and it worked fine.
If anyone know how to fix it let me know please , i'm sure i can prolly just restore from steam and should work but you never know.

The news page announcing the patch does say that it doesn't work with the Steam version and to wait for Steam to update automatically. You should be able to fix your Steam version by simply telling the Steam client to repair the installation.

the last patch Ego said that the patch 1.2.1 does not work with steam version but it did. so i dont take the does nto work with steam "officially correct"
it was worth the try. the serial is the issue here.
i wonder why is it that hard to tell tages or whatever to let us update from egosoft .... it should be easier, and wont cast us away like the not important people for getting updated
I SEE posts coming in a couple of days saying that we cant upgrade from steam. you will see .. (i hope i am mistaken tho,)

You can take it how like, but if you do something that Egosoft specifically tell you not to and it breaks your game, then you only have yourself to blame.palm911 wrote:the last patch Ego said that the patch 1.2.1 does not work with steam version but it did. so i dont take the does nto work with steam "officially correct"
The issue is that the exe is different for the two distributions - in the 1.2.1 hotfix the exe file didn't change.it was worth the try. the serial is the issue here.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but if you're saying you think the game won't be patched on Steam, that's pretty ridiculous.I SEE posts coming in a couple of days saying that we cant upgrade from steam. you will see .. (i hope i am mistaken tho,)

im not worried about the game not getting the patch , the problem is WHEN///////////// in my eyes we are CURSED with Steam.
should i remind that steam took more than a week to patch the game?

I think by 'Steam people' palm911 was referring to Valve.Karlfrans wrote:What ? I'm a steam-user for one, why on bloody earth shouldn't we care about the community?? General Steam discussion doesn't belong in tech support anyway (there are current threads in the main forum, if needed).

If u took the time to read my post i just wanted people to know NOT to do it, i wasn't trying to start a steam debate. Move it if u want but i was trying to help the x community , some thing the mods do every day by making sure ur posts r in the right place, lol and for the line about the patch says not compatible with steam they all say that and many of them are, i rolled the dice and lost . Good thing i bought the steam version cause it would have been terrible to play this all weekend.

I have the same problem.
I did it because the XT3C startup window, the one that start to configure the video options among other thing, have a Big fat button stating look for update that take you directly to the egosoft patch download.
I just download the the patch clicking on another big fat image 'DOWNLOAD'. When lauching the patch, i just selected the steam XT3C directory. The patch did go all the way and installed itself.
Now, I dont want to argue with our dear moderator but I just used normal functionality of the software.
So trying to stuff us by stating
Also, it seem that the DRM tage is the problem. You did the choice to double the protection on steam account using extra drm. Assume it.
Now i will probably have to redownload 7gig of file and use another activation on my lovely DRM. And I may have to pay fees to my isp for extra huge bandwith usage. It simply what we call in software industry, a blocker/critical defect'. Something that broke not just part of the product but its whole.
Please help us instead of assuming we try to hack it or something.
As a last word and maybe the most important of al this thread:
HOW TO FIX IT?????
Preferably without using one activation and downloading 7gig of files.[/b]

Is just false and its showing that egosoft did not test at all the patch on steam use case or did anything to prevent to installing on steam. It woulnt had been so hard to put some validation in the installer to prevent it.Curious

If that option appears when running the steam version, then you're correct - that does sound like an oversight. Hopefully the guys may be able to correct this for future versions. Just a thought - you didn't install the 1.2.1 patch (which also had a statement about not using it for the steam release) prior to steam updating their installation, did you? I could imagine that might give the standard DVD version options on startup.sabiokah wrote:Now, I dont want to argue with our dear moderator but I just used normal functionality of the software.
You shouldn't need to reinstall completely. Do a 'verify install' on your installation and that should fix it. (it should be considerably less than a full install to fix.)Now i will probably have to redownload 7gig of file and use another activation on my lovely DRM.

Wow thats a quick answer thanks.
However I don't see any option on steam 'verify install'. I'm switching steam from French to English to see if its only a poor translation entry. I did try 'verify integrity of the game cache' in the local file properties of the XT3C on steam but nothing happen.
And no Steam did updated the 1.2.1 patch as far as i remember.
Now when i start the game, the activation wizard is starting but the activation code that is given don't seem to work. More exactly then I select the option activate through http It end up with an error 'Connection was forcibly ended by the remote host'. When I fake to do not have an Internet connection. The http web server that is suppose to give me the 'activation file' using the 'Get activation button' is giving me an empty http page (only html headers and empty body).
Before when starting XT3C from the steam interface, as probably with all steam installs, the dialog to set video option had (by memory) few big button to set video options, audio, launch the game and another one for 'look for update'. Seem that the look for update was bypassing steam update mechanism.
Not mentionning the patch itself had no validation for steam installs.

As I was writing my previous post, i just noticed steam started to download the patch.
I paused it since I have absolutely no idea what result it would give on my double patch installation.
Should I let steam update it ?
EDIT:
I dunnot what happen exactly but the game start.
startup dialog box is showing 1.2.1 patch.
I can see few thing that fixed it:
1- 'verify game cache integrity' option on steam XT3C property fixed it.
2- Somebody tweaked my Tage account to make it valid.
3- Act of God. Or a gamer having too much beer.
4- I normally did paused steam upgoming 'updating XX% XXkb/s' message but steam interface might confuse me here. But if so, Was it a fix or the 1.3 patch ?? if 1.3 why dialog still showing 1.2.1:?. Ill try to unpause it and force an update through steam and not the still apearing 'check for update button' on the startup dialog.

Sorry, verify integrity would be the one. (I don't use steam, so didn't know the exact wording.sabiokah wrote:However I don't see any option on steam 'verify install'. It's odd that nothing is happening though - that should check your installation file-by-file and replace any that don't match the steam version, as I understand it.
Not sure whether this is a symptom of your install still being corrupt or whether it's a steam issue. You may have to contact steam to try to sort this out. Could be related to the 'verify' not working if you are unable to reach steam via the internet for some reason. Now when i start the game, the activation wizard is starting but the activation code that is given don't seem to work. :EDIT:
Yes, let it do it, and then do another 'verify integrity' to be sure. Hopefully things will be good.Should I let steam update it ?

:EDIT2:
As for what happened, I would guess it was a 'delayed reaction' verify integrity. So it's rolled it back to 1.2.1 as steam knows it. I haven't heard any screams of delight from steam users on the main forum, so I'd guess steam hasn't patched their install to 1.3 yet.

Last post i swear
After checking. It apear that steam download/re-applied the 1.2.1 patch after using 'verify integrity of the game cache'. Pausing the download didnt seem to work.
The update history on steam interface is still showing only one entry the epoc mighty 0 timestamp (December 31, 1969) but thats minor.
Thanks for the help.
Problem fixed. Dont click that big Fat 'Check for update' button

Thats how i fixed mine , verify game cache or sumthin, and it worked fine, but i did back mine up so maybe if u didnt thats why u dont see any option for it.so far the only complaint i have for steam is the wait for patches, i have no problems with "extra" drm or steam must be on or whatever the main beefs are with it. For me the only way to get the game in chicago was to steam it so, im just glad i got to play this game in the US.
