Hired TL abuse - can buy any factory despite of reputation constraints

Has anyone noticed this yet?

When you hire a TL and dock it with a shipyard, it can buy you any factory you want.

My Hired Mammoth just bought me a bunch of complex construction kits I wouldn't be able to buy myself due to low reputation.

So pretty much you don't have to work your ass off to max your rep to build a FAA factory, you just use a hired TL instead.

I guess it happens cause it's TL's Argon captain buying in that scenario and he probably has high rep with his race (they wouldn't give him command over a TL if he didn't).

But... Is this intentional? And shouldn't this be changed so players can't abuse the hired TLs anymore?

I am glad i ran into this thread i had forgotten it happened to me last night as well.

Hired a Teladi supply ship and asked it to dock at Seizewell shipyard, i went OOS while he did this. After he had docked went to buy station as usual (still OOS) to see the whole list available to buy.

If i docked and try to buy a station (with the TL still docked) the list has unavailable stations due to me not having high enough reputation to do so, i undock and trade with station again there all available to buy again.

So it is not just happening with the Argon ones.

Okay, let me tell it again with details.

I go to Cloudbase South East. I hire the Mammoth there (target, comm captain, hire). I tell it to dock with the shipyard.

When I normally look at the shipyard's content (. for map, d on shipyard), I see I need to be Argon Trusted Ally to purchase Complex Construction Kits. I am one rank below that.

So my hired Mammoth docks at the shipyard I'm supposedly unable to buy from.

When he's there, I press "r" for property, he's listed there. I highlight him and press "d" for trade. Then I have access to the whole stock of the shipyard.

I buy 5 Complex Construction Kits for my new complex and load each of them on the Mammoth.

I fly away with stuff I shouldn't be able to buy.

I hope that's elaborate enough.

EDIT: And yeah, I was in that sector. No need to fly out of it. Just buy via Mammoth's icon in the property menu.

Sounds like when buying through a hired TL its using its race ranking rather then your own. Could that be whats happening?

Unless this TL captain had top rep in Teladi and the Split it may not be just rep linked at all. I sent the same Teladi TL round to a Split shipyard and it does the same thing, allows the player to buy anything.

Must be a bug. It shouldn't even check AI captain's reputation (I assume it's max with all races), it should use player's reputation instead.

No idea how easy it is to fix it though.

Is there a list of confirmed bugs somewhere?

My favorite TL abuse is hiring one getting it to a unknown sector then capturing it, it's homebased fighters don't even attack you. ROFL

Rinse & repeat major mula.

There's a bug with that too. If you capture a hired TL with fighters, those fighters will stay on board and you won't be able to get rid of them.

Yes and no, they leave after the TL goes OOS.
