Cant scan ship help

1 of my 1st mission is to scan pirate base however nothing on control panel lets me do this. I have a freight scanner but it wont scan anything.

All you gotta do mate is fly withing 500metres of it, keep within 500m and you will notice a bar at the very bottom of screen saying "Scanning ##%"

you must stay within 500 till 100%, don't worry you won't get shot!
