I have read all the thread but I am still confused of low performance on my ...!... laptop. Don't know what to do. If to go with software tweaks or with some hardware improvement?

I have Lenovo T60p with ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200 and 2GB RAM.

Now, I see how that sounds - but!... this worked smoothly on X3R.

Now in X3TC I see visible downgrade of performance. Average of 15FPS and less then that in such sectors as Home of Light when looking at OTAS - even to 6-7FPS. This is unplayable.

My satings are - no AA and AF (I wonder how much I lose on visible side?)
Textures - High with better lightinign etc... all checked.

Res - the lowest possible 1024.

Now what can I do to improve my performence (software means)- if anything?
Why X3TC works visibly slower?

I downloaded ATI Tray Tool.
As mentioned in manual - before I lunch the game I switch off as much programs as possible (virus protection, skype etc...)
I tried to get the newest driver but guess what - ATI does not provide MOBILITY FIREGL drivers. Instead they give FIREGL drivers which need to be modded to MOBILITY. I have done so but they look unstable and ca. 20% worse in performance. So I have over a year old driver installed.

What else can I do? Buy better hardware?

The minimum and recommended requirements for X3TC are higher for a reason. ;)

Start by turning textures down to "Medium".

curious, why are the demands so much higher when the graphics have seen no noticable change and the game is only marginally different than X3:r with Xtended..

No noticeable change? You have seen how big those Terran stations are, right? ;)

I want to know what Egosoft are doing about the serious performance hit after a couple days of playing!

Can we have a comment please?

I provided a comment yesterday in this very thread; it's only one page back. I also gave the same comment earlier that same day, just one more page back. Do I really need to repeat it again?

Remember the release days of X3:R... man, the memories.
"X3 is the devil! I'm never buying another ecosoft (sic) game again!"

A humorous realisation is that people are now saying things like
"X3:R is tons better than this steaming pile called TC! It runs so much more smoothly! I'm reinstalling it!"

The loop begins again and Egosoft have brought out a quality game to a niche market. We have become the 'gamma testers', but it's the sacrifice we have to make to enjoy a game of this stature. These guys aren't EA or Ubisoft. On the flipside, the X team provides an inordinate amount of support above and beyond fixing bugs and glitches. This bug obviously affects everyone who's clocked a significant amount of hours, including myself, so all these quick fixes (turning down graphics, sound quality) won't magically make it disappear.

Go outside, play another game, assist the tech's, temporarily shelve it, live through the lag, whatever you do, rest assured that the team are working on it and a patch with savegame compatibility will be around the corner... I hope :P

Pulse: Very well said. IMO Egosoft is one of the best game devs out there for the very reason that they stand behind their products and the support doesn't just stop on the release date. How much extra content have we gotten from Egosoft over the years without having to pay for an "Expansion"? I know it's frustrating, but let's be patient, they'll figure out the problem and fix it.

Was I talking about Home of Light or some Terran sector?

Is there a chance that some comming patch will address the issue of performance? How was it with X3R (I started X3R not that long ago)?

Please do me a favour and read the three or four replies I've already given in this thread. ;)

pixel wrote:there are 4 things you can do to improve performance, in order of my preference.

1) rename the mov folder 00002.dat file to 000002.dat.old

2) reduce your sound card settings, on my x-fi I went into advanced and selected 16 bit rather than 32 bit, made a difference (also got rid of some odd sound issues)

3) get rid of civilian ships, use the great MOD by Graxster, found on the mod & scripts forum. Just unzip it to a new folder called 'mods' in your x3tx folder, and from the LAUNCH screen (not the in game menu, but before the game launches) select mod options.

4) reduce textures and shaders to medium, and AA and AF to less.

can you explain point 1 please? What's that mov file do?

i have the same problem regarding the seta issue and the one thing i have noticed is that the large amount of ships that 'loiter' around the jump gates will all pile through once you have flown through it, i have also noticed this in some of the missions when you protect certain ships from attack where they seem to wait for you to go first.

apologies if this is a repost

And what about people with minimum requirements (2 GHz P4), which is about twice slower than this C2Q. They would get, at max, 10 fps.
a 2 GHz P4 is actually about 1/8 the speed of your C2Q because of more efficient achetecture in the latter.
