Trouble activating TAGES protection for Steam

Post by JFJohnny5 »

Anyone else having problems activating their Steam copy of X3TC? I can't get it to connect automatically or manually on any computer in my house. It suggests opening the firewall. But aside from mine already being fairly open, the only port mentioned on the TAGES site is TCP over port 80. That certainly isn't blocked... I know Egosoft is Not TAGES. Just want to know if anyone else is having similar issues and how you got it to connect.

Deactivate piece of every firewall and anti-virus software you have, then try again. If it works, this tells you it's your firewall or AV that was blocking it. If it doesn't, then you know they arn't the problem.

If nothing works, go to the TAGES page

It just suddenly worked. I was clicking the link to Get an Activation code and it kept erroring out...then, 30 minutes after the whole fiasco began, it just didn't error out. I hope no one else had as hard a time as I did with this DRM.

DRM Failures

Post by SpiritMaster »

DRM in general is a failed attempt by companies to prevent pirates, since the game is inevitably cracked within days or a week at most. You can take it as a sign of how much I enjoy Egosofts games, that I was willing to buy a game that uses yet another form of draconian copy protection, which ultimately does nothing but irritate legitimate paying customers.

Regardless of your opinion about DRM, this is not the place to get into a discussion about it. Since the OPs question is answered, I'll close this to avoid discussion turning off topic/illegal.
