As said above, i'd like a reason to have a destroyer or a fleet, rather than just because i can.
Maybe the Argon fleet will be crippled in a massive battle and it'll be left to you to raise a fleet and come to the rescue, before the Universe is overrun.
Also, i'd like to be able to crush the pirates(or any race of your choosing) and claim their space as my own. I'd then sign a peace treaty with the local planets and charge them rent for living in my space
EXACTLY what I had in mind! The power to change the galaxy, invade and completely destroy a race without them spawning after 2, 3 days! Then claim the sector and rename it to whatever you want!
I sure hope i start with some help at least financialy, otherwise building that it would be hard
Was that the teladi shipyard from XTM i just saw? At the start, where you see that white ship flying through a tubular structure, looks a lot like the SY from XTM.
I hear they are working in close colaboration, and many models from xtm will be used. I´m hoping to see the Galeon there too, as i just love that ship, and it was my mobile HQ for a really long time.
Though new ship classes and models is nice and all, i´m hoping they adress the real issues. A new UI was a good step in the right direction, but there´s a lot more out there that needs "tweaking". I´m still waiting for a proper in-game video that shows more than a few shinny new ships flying around.
Cosmetics was never a problem with X games, they all looked superb. So i´m hoping they don´t waste too many resources and time fiddling with eye candy, while overlooking the really important factors, like mission design.
I've never really owned a cap ship in any of the X games although I'm sure I tried one out at some point in X3. If they are going to be a requirement to help fight off an attack or join in a war then I hope they are more accessible. I dont necessarily mean cheaper, perhaps the side you are fighting for will lend you some to help the war effort or perhaps help you build your own.
I'm going to have to try ou cap ships in X3 now just to see what it does to the balance of the game....
I think there were words: "big ships easier to get" somewhere. How about adding one more turret to every ship class and call them "new and bigger"? Or start calling a kilometer a mile. No real change, but sounds longer.

The NPC traders haul wares between stations. Removing part of stations affects the flow. The NPC economy can end up in odd state. Naturally not a problem if you are already self-sufficient.
You build to manufacture guns and products. You need credits to build. You get credits by selling products. But you can sell only to NPC stations. So you have to choose: (a) destroy sources of credits permanently, or (b) grow a bit longer before choosing (a). In X3:R you do need the NPC for credits to build in PHQ, and for ship upgrades.
Wasn't it said before that missions (including BBS) is a big focus of the game? Hopefully more missions will cater to fleets. For instance, it only makes sense to bring a fleet when a XI starts. Except that you're only paid for the ships you kill yourself, your wings don't earn you anything...
Changes like that, and perhaps getting the 500 credits when your Patrol Corvettes kill those M5 pirate loiterers, would go towards having a purpose for a fleet.

I am not sure what you mean, but in X3R you are paid for every Xenon destroyed by any of your properties during a XI. XI can even be done OOS if you really wish it.
I really don't see the point in discussing the necessity of the fleet. If you like having a huge spacefleet, good for you, now you can. But wondering what is the point of all the effort kinda kills the whole idea. It's a game... big game...big fleets...

Really? I haven't done that many XI missions, but I was sure that in the ones I brought wingmen in I got paid crap all...

Big game, big fleets that sit around generally doing nothing.

Yes it looks very much like the Teladi SY in XTM. I hope all the different races have their own models, I didn't like the generic "one size fits all" SY in X3. [ external image ] X3-TC flyby screen
Just thuoght that as the X series motto is "Trade, build, think, fight" (in random order) presumably this means we might be getting another 3 promo videos ....
Flight Wing Management, now that looks like a solid step in the right direction
What can you order the wing to do? If you pause the video you get a glimpse at the Wing Command Console with some new stuff like 'Fuel Resupply' and 'AutoJump', still using the old style menu system.
Where is the ellusive sector map, we are getting there I feel it in my bones....
Personally I think the new UI belongs on the sector map, it kind of distracts you from the flight sim aspect when shared with the HUD.
BigBANGtheory wrote:The narrative talks about bomber squadrons too
Yeah, I'm curious about that. If you load up some Nova's with Firestorms/Hammerheads/other heavy missiles, put them into a group with all wings set to attack leaders target, and 100% missile fire chance, isn't that a bombing squadron?

And if you are able to do that, then I sure hope the other races see you as a new threat and form a coalition to fight you. Seems rather lame that in X3-TR, the player could wipe out, say, the whole Boron nation without any real repurcusions from the other races, especially their allies, the Argon.
