Why can I not buy stations?

Question from a nuby, I have found the AP Gunner and all of the stations at all of the shipyards are red? The messages fron Ban say that I should be making credits from my factories, but I cannot buy any? Have I missed something? or is this a flaw?

You need to buy or hire a TL and have it docked with the shipyard you want to buy a factory from.

I tryed that, and docked at the shipyard but still only had red stations. I had enough credits but nodda! I could buy the large ships (they are white) if I had enough credits to.

Did you dock with a TL (not a TS). TLs are the ones that cost between 17 and 28 million depending on the race.

Alternatively, go within 8 km of a computer controlled TL in a sector (eg. a Mammoth in Argon Prime) and comm them. Hire them and ask them to dock at teh shipyard. Once docked, you will be able to buy a station. Then ask the TL to travel to the sector you want to place your station and then ask the captain to drop you station at the location you select with your number pad arrows.

simple but is your noteriety high enough to purchase the station?

I did have a Mammoth hired and docked but, I did this early on in the game, I do not know how high my noteriety was at the time but I have only been trying to trade with stations from afar since then. I will try it again. Thanks for ansering my plea for help. (^_^)

did you have enough space on the TL?

and i assume you know that a TL is like the Argon Mammoth.

I don't think X2 had notoriety limits for buying.

Goldfinch is quite true. i have managed to buy paranid ships even though they have not allowed me to dock. i have ships already landed there and ask it to trade with the station and i can get any ship in stock.

i am only 1 stage lower than able to dock though.

The main problem is you have to wait until the TL is docked at the shipyard. This can take a very long time in some cases (due to the dumb AI having trouble docking)

Thanks for everyone's help, I am now the proud owner of a Power Plant! (^_^) I did the same thing that I did the first time but this time it let me buy! (I do not know what I did wrong the first time, it was about a month ago) since then I have just been trying to trade long distances and always see red stations so I quit trying ! Thanks again, now it's time to learn about assigning ships to service my new station.
