I love the idea here, and I think the execution is great.
Personally, I agree that it's time Egosoft got a Universe in mind and stuck with it. I hadn't noticed what you said about the missing planet of Omicron Lyrae, but assuming you're right, someone really dropped the ball as that planet is actually a major plot point of the game!

A few possible corrections before you go to final version. This is quite meticulous, so be warned. You don't have to pay attention if you don't wanna...

Spelling errors.
"Pontiflex's Seclusion"
"Sacred Relic"
"Olmancketslat's Treaty"
"Z'rt's Domination"
Xenon Sector 101 could use a capital 'S'
Oh, and at the top right, you've got "LASS" instead of "LESS"

And the apostrophes are pretty hit-and-miss. A HELL of a lot are missing. Basically, most sectors where one of the words ends with an "s" need an apostrophe. Notably, President's End, Empire's Edge, Menelaus' Frontier, and anything with "Rolk's" "Rhy's" "Duke's" Priest's" "Emperor's" or a name (Brennan, Elena). If you want it to be perfect, you could even add this to your region names (eg. Ocracoke's Drift)

Ah Wikipedia. Greatest source of unconfirmed facts in the universe

We won't get a decent answer to this question, because i strongly suspect there isn't one. I doubt Egosoft have thought about it or decided one way or the other. And this is part of the trouble with the X universe, in my opinion. There's little or no Consistent thought or attention to detail been put into the actual setting and that helps to kill the immersion. This is particulalrly clear from game to game. For example the scenery and backdrops in sectors often completely transform. Here's a couple of the more prominent examples-

Actually I think that Dominion that is considered canonical by many players and even refered to in the game (sector names, product names, etc) mentiones first the fact that loop consists of sectors that are randomly placed in space (whether in same galaxy or randomly in universe, I do not remember).

But you know what? I like your explanation better. You certainly made a great map.
