Buses for your Graphics, please you look :)

Post by madness 3D »

Its a bit sad but i'd like to know the general level of "techiness" on this forum.

I have an AGP card because when i built my PC that was the standard, i know i could go up to PCI - E but that would require a new mobo and gfx card, so i might as well get a newer processor in a newer slot and then i'll need new ram, oh and a new copy of windows too...

So go on,
PCI - E
AGP
PCI (please no)
Are you with the bus revolution or not?

No it wouldn't :P

Asrock had a pretty solid motherbaord, (i used to have one), that provided both agp and pci-e on one board, without being a complete fudge ;)

well, tbh, s939 motherboards fullstop are starting to become thin on the ground. I used to have the dual sata2 and it was solid as a rock and easy to use. If you don't want to upgrade the rest of your components just yet i fully reccomend it ;)

I voted AGP because If people still were making good cards for it then I could have saved $600(upgrade)

Thanks for the advice,
what i'll do i'll get one and that always gives me the option to get a PCI Express Graphics card (maybe an 8 series) But i may only install it when i need it (my machines happy now but its always there when i need it)

Thanks again I will have a go at gettiing one off ebay (i have my sights set now)

Heh well BDStyle has my old sata2, (old room mate ;)), so ask him how it is... There were rumours that they were going to produce a card that sits in a 'future cpu slot' that exists on the mb to support am2 sockets, but whether they did or not i couldn't say...

I had a look at that future cpu slot thing
(thought it was the agp slot until i looked closer)
i looked and couldn't find any actual product anywhere just a load of people saying they couldn't get them
i'll pm "BDStyle" at some point and have a chat
thx

Heh, yeah it wouldn't suprise me. Whats better for them, that you just buy some upgtrade card, or a whole new motherboard? It's a good idea, just not for the company's bottom line :D

and if you pm BDStyle, mention me name. I'm very good friends with him and he's more likely to respond ;)

What's this, I'm getting accosted by random forum goers now?

Heh glad to put my limited (no where near the knowledge level than shifty has on pc's) opinion.

The board rocks :) I replied to the interest in it but I could only give a general idea on the board since I'm no where near uber enough with hardware than you are. Suffice to say its certainly doing its job :)

Fantastic. Eh, BDStyle, there's a thought for you.

As i thought, it gives you some DDR2 ports as well. don't forget that the memory controller for amd64 processors is built into the processor, so you wouldn't be able to use ddr with an am2 socket processor. (and ddr2 has a notch in a different place to ddr).

Go for it my son ;)

EDIT: though if you are going to spend 700, they do a socket775 version. No idea if it is core2duo compatible mind.
