What is it:
An “Artificial Life” addon with an endless number of new missions for you to do. BenCo Industries is looking for a few good operatives and has another new weapon. This new weapon is called the “Virus Weapon” and will stop a target cold. A computer virus that uses regular com signal transmission waves to deliver it’s payload. As com signals are regular radio waves that pass through ship shields unhindered, they are the perfect carrier to deliver the computer virus. The only difference is that instead of this transmission being a regular sound wave file, it is in fact a highly compressed MP3 sound file. The virus is received by the targets com system array, which is wired and connected to the main ship onboard computer system via USB cable network. Once the sound file has been received, it is decompressed by onboard ship computer com system, which believes it to be a regular compressed com signal. The MP3 file carrying much more data decompresses and promptly performs a kickback surge loop, enabling it to overflow into the main buffer capacitor ram storage relays and into the ship’s primary computer RAM as a TSR program. Once this has occurred, it begins sending out commands that temporarily shut down ship shield generators, weapon systems and life support subsystems. Within a minute, all air is vented from the ship and the bio life forms aboard have the option of escaping with a space suite or die. Most will die after one minute as they simply don’t know what has happened or what to do and by the time they figure it out, it’s too late. BenCo Industries realizes that a weapon this powerful must be kept in check. As a result, BenCo has multiple safety and limitation features built into it’s activation and application. First the MP3 file is specifically designed for a single ship and uses that target ship’s ID Code within it’s search and destroy methodology leaving it harmless to any other ship. Second, BenCo has decided to use the Gate Network as a portal delivery system, which takes the actual weapon out of the hands of any individual pilot, who might want to use such a weapon for personal gain or malus. This is achieved by first requiring a pilot to be within a 5 km range of the intended identified target. The pilot then presses an activation “Hotkey”, which is, in actuality a call back transmission signal to BenCo Industries. Once this signal is received by BenCo, an automatic transmission of a pre-designed MP3 file is sent out through the Gate Network and is channeled into the BenCo Operative’s ship. The signal is then broadcast from the BenCo pilot’s ship as a regular com signal directly to the target’s ship com receiver array.
How many Credits can I earn and what do I do as a BenCo Operative? :
You will be paid 30 percent of an assigned target ship’s market value (less any estimated cost of damage, of course). You will also get paid the standard Finders Fee of 50,000 credits for any “small parcel” that may be located within a target ships cargo bay. This is more of a requirement than an opportunity, as if you fail to deliver the package to BenCo, you will be reprimanded and fined 50,000 credits as punishment. Assigned target ships are from all races and range in class from M3 up to M1 (no small M4, M5 or low value ships). So, there is a great opportunity to build a steady high income career with BenCo Industries. Also, there are no requirements to accept a given assignment. If you feel the risk of venturing into a sector is too great given the class of ship assigned, then just ignore the email and wait for another assignment to come up (about every ½ hour, real time). Also, you have ½ hour to find and hit your target, if you have not hit them by then, another assignment will be issued and the custom ID code will be changed in favor of the new assignment. Once you have activated the “Virus Weapon” on an assigned target and once the target ship is under BenCo control, the virus will, for a brief 30 seconds, give up that control of the ship to the Operative. With the target ship still targeted within your Targeting Reticule, you now must use your main menu (ship HUD icon) and select the top-left button named “Target”. An option will appear below that is named, “Freight Beamer”, use this interface to transfer any ware objects you wish back and forth between your ship and the target ship. You have 30 seconds to transfer exactly 60 Energy Cells over to the target ship and then transfer the “small parcel” from the target ship over to your ship. After 30 seconds, the virus will take control back of the target ship and Jump out of the sector toward BenCo Industries. If you fail to transfer the EC over to the target ship, or you steal the Jumpdrive or Navigation Software, the virus will interpret this as a mission failure and begin a ship self destruct sequence.
How do I stop new Assignments or Missions:
You have two ways to stop new assignments from being emailed to you. You can go to the Artificial Life settings of your onboard computer ie:
(Main Menu icon/Options/Artificial Life Settings) and you will see “BenCo Pirate Missions”, change the “Yes” option to “No”. Or, you can, after completion of a mission, simply hang on to the “small parcel” and delay delivering it back to BenCo Industries. This will also stop new missions from being assigned to you.
Equipment Required:
1) The Eclipse you are given as a BenCo Operative has everything you need.
2) Transporter Device (Freight Beamer)
3) Jumpdrive
4) BenCo Operative uses sector “Presidents End”, so your new game or saved game MUST have that sector in your save or new game and it MUST be in the same location as the vanilla game. It also uses the Friendly Race, so if you use any other Mods/Scripts that also use this Race, there may be a conflict.

Cool script, sounded like the cylon security bypass at first. I've been trying to write a script to the same effect a while ago for myself.
A question, do I have to be in the Eclipse to use the virus weapon? And is the weapon only useable during the pirate missions? (I assume I can't use it outside the pirate missions)

No you do not have to be in the Eclipse to use the weapon, but in the beginning, you need to dock at the BenCo Shipyard in order to get the Eclipse and to start the missions rolling. After that, you can fly whatever you want.reinhart_menken wrote:Cool script, sounded like the cylon security bypass at first. The weapon is only useable when BenCo assigns a target to you AND only useable against that particular assigned target. You can't hit anyone else. Also, if you are too slow to find and hit your assignment, the weapon will no longer work against the original target either, but will instead only work upon the newest assign targt.

Well, if you are hired on as a cop, do they make you ride a bike until you earn the right to use a cruser? Anyway, trust me, if you get an assignment to go to Xenon ### early on, (like I did, many times while testing), you will be very thankful that you got that Eclipse, let me tell you.Mailo wrote:Interesting idea, a free Eclipse right at the start might be a bit much though, how about earning it after a number of successful missions?
Besides, BenCo doesn't want their best operative flying around in a piece of crap. You are TOO valuable to them.
In any event, thanks for the comment. Let me know how you like the missions and gameplay or how you hate the sucker.

ok this is a great script but any chance of turning the virus weapon into a super weapon usable when ever you want (but of course it will have something like a hour recharge time (to even it out) so it livens things up also how about giving these to the pirates

no I don't think so. I took particular care to insure that the weapon can only be activated by BenCo Industries command and is under their strick control. Otherwise, a pilot such as yourself could rule the Universe and take over every asset anyone ever owned and more....then they would have to call you Sir GOD Daniel.

well they should call me that anyway but come on at least let people use them outside of the missions even if it's only once every 24 game hours just to make it interesting by the way if you hadn't noticed i did say give them to pirates aswell to even it out

Well, the BenCo - Operative is meant to be an addon, not the prime focus. In between missions, you could be using the money you make to build an empire. Wait, tell you get the call to get 3 big ships in a row, (anythings possible, ie: Titan, Carrier, K). Then use those big credits to buy alot of Factories and stuff. Think of BenCo - Operative as a compliment extra set of opportunities.danielhumphries50 wrote:well they should call me that anyway but come on at least let people use them outside of the missions even if it's only once every 24 game hours just to make it interesting by the way if you hadn't noticed i did say give them to pirates aswell to even it out
If you want something with similar power and maybe you could add the BenCo System Override Software script. I think this will fill your appetite for power.

The lower the Pilot's moral, the less likely it is that he will notice that you are the reason his ship is failing. So you have less of a chance of getting caught trying to hack a ship that has Pilot with low moral.danielhumphries50 wrote:you know what i just have and by the sounds of it it may be sattisfactory but one question that was a little vague if the target ships moral is lower then is it easyer or harder to capture

Not really. There are 4 main attributes of a pilot:danielhumphries50 wrote:ok another question can i have a list of the races from highest moral to lowest that would extremely helpful
1) Trade experience level
2) Agression level
3) Fight skill level
4) moral level
All of these are created "at random" by the X3 game when a ship is spawned/created. I don't think these attributes are shown to the Player on the normal details interface of a target ship. Anyhow, no there is no set values for these attributes they are randomly set for each and every ship that is created.
Daniel, I wouldn't be too concerned about these anyway. Just play the game and have fun. OK.
