Eve Online

Post by Antilogic »

Well, there hasnt been a topic for a while so I throught I would do a little update for those of us that are big fans of the game :)

Well, starting on a good note, X UNIVERSE reached a peek of 8 players online in channel at the same time. Not much yet, but getting there! Thanks to all that take part in the channel, its been great fun and great chats so far.

On a sad note, there are uncomfermed reports (Posted by his "brother", nothing is comfermed) that INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE, writer for the famous 0.0 Experiment has died. If it is the truth or not, he has stopped writing them. They was very good reading, and if your a fan or not I suggest you give them a try becuase they are very funny :)

In ingame alliance news, the 5000 member Ascendant Frontier alliance has fallen to Band of Brothers. Old ASCN space is now controlled uncontested by BOB.

As for myself, Ive now joined Celestial Apocalypse in fighting BOB in fountain. They have now considered us and our allies such a threat that they have felt the need to tonight deploy their Titan and 2 Motherships against us. Im just annoyed I cant log in right now :( (Stupid new credit card)

Anyway, if others want to post their own actions in eve lately that would be cool (yes im bored hehe :P )

As for the game itself, this link containes some very cool details of whats up and coming in the next expansion.

Clicky
Btw thanks to Dio for his continued assistance for Fountain Freedom.

I have feared this was the case with INNO for some time now, i have had a number of conversations with him and he was quite pasionate about his blog, i don't believe he would leave his fans hanging.

On a BoB note, they have decided to screw over their guests in Paragon Soul, the ANZAC Alliance, and now we have been kicked out of the prime mining and ratting area. Bastards. BoB and ANZAC have enjoyed a friendship for a long time, if you check the majority of evolutions members employment history, you will find ANZAC there. Us not paying to be there and having access to everywhere (1isk office rental, 2%refine tax) was what seperated us from BoB pets, now we have 200Mill office rental and 20% tax and area restrictions, BASTARDS!

I have recently started playing eve, love it brilliant game.

However atm i cant afford to pay for it so i cant play :(

One thing thats interesting me, what is all this your on about? Im guessing the places your talking about are very far from Lonetrek. Didnt realise there was some serious corp wars going on.

The quick story for the newbie is: The outer regions of the map that have a security rating of 0.0 can be claimed by player corporations and alliances. When one alliance want anothers space, a war ensues. 0.0 territory is valuable as their are rare ores and high value NPC pirates with few stations.

The largest industrial based alliance, the Ascendant Frontier with 5000+ members lost a war with the pvp based alliance the Band of Brothers. When the band of brothers claim a territory they dont use, they rent it out to 'pet' corps who pay large fees in order to use the space.

Dont worry, people in dialup etc can play, just dont have any high hopes of fighting in massive fleet engagements (not that its huge fun, basicly "Primary Target Mitch Tayler, Primary Sir Molle, Primary.... 130 mil battleship you own explodes in under 2 seconds of being called Primary")

Ok, Ill quickly roll off the wars.

This Is the latest Eve Alliance Map. It shows where all the big alliances control space and where the warzones are.

The alliance Band Of Brothers (Big Blue Blob on the left) has just removed the 5000 member Alliance Ascendant Frontier from 3 regions in the south and destroyed the alliance. kethalpak Corp was in ASCN before they surrendered to BOB, now they live in their old space but its not controlled by BOB, so they pay massive taxes for the privlage. Think of BOB as the old Roman Empire and you can get some idea.

My Alliance, Insurgency is a much smaller alliance fighting Band Of Brothers and their allies in the Fountain region (left-top). We have a couple of X UNIVERSE member alliances assisting us but Band Of Brothers, fresh for their victory over ASCN have decided to come and make things very boring for us. However the fight continues.

As a new player, this doesnt matter to you right now, just relax and get used to the game. If you want to come and fight, well, im not going to say no :D

But yes legion eve is a massive player V player combat game. There are huge battles for space and money going on constantly. Even in high sec space smaller corps and alliances wage war.

Speaking as an outsider to Eve, at what point do you think the game would start to act against one particular alliance if they grew too dominant. And what control / actions would actually make them too dominant?

Perfect Question, its many some people have begun to ask lately, with the Band of Brothers alliance as yet unbeaten in major warfare (they have lost battles, many of them, but no wars as yet).

To that, lets look at some history.

Curse Alliance. 2 years ago they controlled a massve amount of space, more then BOB controls today. People began to decide they was a threat. They was freeing attacking targets in multiaple regions all over the universe, and generally peoplle united against them. After 3 months of fighting CA was finally defeated, their space was split up and the alliance destroyed.

This happened to another alliance....almost.

RED Alliance. They took control much of Curse Alliance space after they fell, and have been fighting for that space ever since. In the last 6 months, they have faced a massive coalition of empires, totally over 10,000 pilots. They was forced down to 5 systems. Yet they continued fighting and today, while fighting the same enemies (some have fallen however), they allies have come to help them and as I speak fighting continues.

There could never be a total controller of all of eves contested space. Its been proven time and time again none would stand for it. Eve is a game where reputation matters, and large forces constantly take a divebomb when they start getting uppy and it always leads to their downfall. People unite and fight. Systems in eve is where people live and they will fight for it. For someone like BOB to control all of the universe they will have pissed off a huge amount of people, far more then they could hope to engage.

Speaking of this, the stage is currently set for what is going to be the biggest war in eve history. The Alliance DUSK AND DAWN, and their friendly alliances are prepareing themselves to wage constant war. the universe is splitting themselvesup into 2 sides, and there have been several highly engaged wars by smaller alliances that either align themselves with or against BOB. The 2 superpowers have been fighting by proxey for now, its only a matter of time before the horns clash and the face of 0.0 eve is changed forever.

I think there is currently 7000 systems. You travel to each one by use of jumpgates.

Battleships you can get. however they are not the biggest ships. I personly own 2 battleships currently, and have lost 15 in fleet combat.

Even bigger then battleships are carriers and dreads, then motherships and finally titans.

However in eve bigger is never better. you can have 15 battleships but you are useless without smaller ships to keep the target in place.

Well, things are heathing up out here in fountain. BoB seems to have permanently stationed two motherships (think carrier on steroids) and some dreadnaughts out here in order to help their "Pet-alliance", as Titan so correctly called them, recover. Currently my corporation has gone into suspended mode, with the exception of the regular suicide runs in frigates against hostile capital ships. While all this is going on down in fountain we are doing some training with our newer members in safe space, and stockpiling supplies for the inevitable push against BoB.

As Titan said, when a player entity gets too large other alliances tend to get scared, forget past grudges for a couple of months and band together. That's whats currently happening in EVE, with BoB, Fix, Xelas and similar on one side and Dusk and dawn with allies on the other.

The only thing that can be said to this is:
War is good for profitssssss
Especially for those of us who are capable of building ships :P

Fleet combat as it is right now is not very fun or rewarding, but CCP (EVE's developers) are planning to make small-scale battles with 5-10 players more important in the comming patches.

You are aware that unlike Freelancer and X2/3, you cannot control your craft in battle. You literally select the target, and then "shoot" at them by activating the weapon to engage.

You also don't fly your ship, you point and click where you wish to go.

Don't let this fool you though, doesn't mean it's a shocker - I enjoy Eve immensely, just that my comp died whilst playing last time, so I cancelled after being back for just 1 week!
