Problems with Split/Paranid rep. - advice needed
Here is my problem. In my game as Boring Boron my starting Split and Paranid rep. was Enemy of Rhonkar and Enemy of Priest Duke respectively. After killing a few pirates and Khaak in Split and Paranid border sectors and taking a few assassination missions where the target is Split or Paranid I've increased my rep to Split Family Enemy 17% and Paranid Desecrator of Holy Light 11%.
I'm not allowed into Split and Paranid core sectors but can cruise the Border sectors as long as I watch out for the occasional red police ship, most of the ships are now blue but I'm not allowed to dock at stations yet.
Taking out Pirate M3s or Khaak fighters in Split and Paranid sectors gives me a 1 - 2 % rep. increase at this level so I've still got some way to go before I can get docking privs. If I could find a Split/Paranid sector that had been invaded by the Khaak I could go on a killing spree that would boost my rep. that way, but I've got Khaak invasions in Akeelas Beacon and Great Trench so I can't expect to find any more?
Even taking out Split/Paranid TLs in the assassination missions that I'm being offered now will only give me 3 - 5% rep. increase - so that is useful but not an instant solution.
There are still some Paranid Border sectors that I haven't visited mainly from Empires Edge round to Trinity Sanctum so I'll get around to mapping them later today. Also, I haven't visited Bad Debt down to Rhys Crusade as I need to pass through core sectors (Trinity and Family Rhy) - but I could run a fast M5 through them - so that isn't a big deal.
The level of pirate activity in 1.4.02 seems lower than last time I played so that doesn't help me.
The only thing I can think of at the moment is to nav. sat. some of the border sectors near pirate sectors like Priests Pity and Thuruks Beard and keep an eye out for Pirates passing through and jump in when I see any.
If there can be more than 2 Khaak invasions then it would be worth me trying to find another as I think I've mapped most of the Argon, Boron and Teladi sectors.

My advice would be to just go with the flow. Take advantage of the fact that you are already enemies with them to cap as many of their freighters as you can!
My experience as a bankrupt assassin (enemy to both paranid and boron) suggests that it takes a couple of decent paying assassination missions with paranid or split as target, and you will fly up the ranks. ( I believe I have gone up a couple of ranks with a single mission.)

Just keep going at it, it will take some time, perhaps since space weed & fuel sell nearly everywhere & you don't even need to send ships off, you can set one up in border stations, trading helps with ranks, & thats 1 way to do it... in my game I ended up becoming an enemy of all racing exept Argon (Just) anyways I wasn't able to do or even go into border stations, however now I'm quite highly ranked with all of them, overall it just takes a long while, don't kill them, & just keep doing what you are, a good factory where they'll come to you means you won't need to dock meaning you'll be trading & getting your rank up that way... A good place to set up such station is on a border near a race you're friendly with, like I set up a factory in Paranid space next to the boron sectors down near Trinity Sanctom I think it is, I used Boron sectors to fuel my station cause I couldn't dock with Paranid.

Both the Split and Paranind like Teladianium. So drop a Teladianium Foundry or two in their border sectors. You may have to use buyers for energy to start with, but eventually the NPC traders should keep them going. Trading with your factories in their sectors is a good way to gain rep slowly but surely. For the Paranid, try Priests Pity or something around Preacher's Void. For the Split, Rhy's Desire or Rhy's Crusade are good places. Just check to see if there are nearby users of Teladianium. There are in my game, but yours could be totally different. Nostrop Oil sells even better to both of these races, but that would require a Sun Oil/Flower Farm complex.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

@jlehtone - good call. I dropped some nav sats in and around Ghinns Escape and an hour later checked and found 2 Ps, 6 Ls and a few Ms there. I jumped in and took out most, but one of the Ps got toasted by the pirate base lasertowers - I still got a boost from Split Family Enemy 17% -> 60% though.
I also took an assass. mission vs. a Hercules + 4 Perseus and that boosted me from Para. Desecr. Holy Light 17% to 79%.
So I might not need to build facts after all.
cheers...

If a patrol has to travel between Family Njy and Ocean of Fantasy, it will use the Ghinn-Hila route. That is shorter than Deception-Ryk.
The pirates do not attract from long range. It may have been that those patrols simply were ordered to attack Ghinn, and the Base was the nearest victim (Xenons entered from Hila).

Find a nearby pirate station, dock and wait till a "station hack" BBS message appears. This will fix your problem.

Additionally, you can continuosly reload the autosave (the one that was generated when you docked to the pirate station) untill the desired message comes forth. It will save you from waiting

If you don't mind stuffing up your other race ranks you can gain rep with the Split by killing Boron ships in their sectors, and with the Paranid by killing Argon. I would recommend having a bit of money available before you do this--stop killing before your rep drops too low so you can dock in Boron or Argon stations and donate to the charity BBS if it turns up.

Why would you do the Boron start if you just want an ordinary game where you are friends with all the races? Isnt the whole point of these new starts to give you a new game. Dont become friends with the Split kill them all.
If you take your current path you will end up in the same position as any non plot start. Take advantage of this new start and take the war to the Split.
