Updated download links to a (much) better ftp server,
no bandwidth restrictions :)

(from streamline.net, am I allowed to say that?)

Forgot to say

thanks to BigBANGtheory and Yellowman for the interim dll problem work-around.

Egosoft take note of this please this type of application or its features would make a great addition to the game. Perhaps as technical data once you encounter ships you can view their technical specs & 3D models.

Oh blast, nothing's ever simple,

that dll is a 'Unicode' dll that allows extra characters
like the greek alpha, beta & gamma symbols.

I did debate with myself about using this feature, but I thought it
was present on all Windows systems, what version of Windows are you using?

Anyway I think I'm allowed to redistribute that dll, so I'll put it
in the download link at lunch time (2 hours from now), unless
someone can link to it sooner?

BigBANGtheory : thanks for the endorsement :)

The 2 dlls that some might need are now downloadable on the original post,
about 1/2 way down under the text NOTE.

Hopefully there won't be any other dlls required, but if anyone
knows different please tell me.

Downloaded mfc71u.dll and now it works fine. Great work btw!
(I'm running Windows XP Home edition, sp2 in answer to your question).

If possible, egosoft should indeed put something similar in the game. Would be nice if you could see this when buying a ship (or why not put in a station: ship museum, where you can see all the ships info and how they look in one place?)... I know, post on devnet

is there anyway of changing the background colour, some ships are very hard to see against black.

and is there a way of manualy rotating the ships?

Another nice feature to have would be the ability to click on a weapon type and see which turrets/guns fired that weapon.

@Godalmighty83
I was thinking that myself, I might well put in a planet / nebula
'background' so that the reflective quality of each ship surface
could be see (Boron ships are much less reflective, than others)
The yellow 'light' buttons 1, 2 and 3 change the lighting, if you havn't
already, try 2 instead of 1 to get a brighter view.

@NeverSnake
You mean like hovering the mouse over the word 'mouse' when you've
cliked the Gun button in the toolbar ?
What I would like to do is render firing of guns as you would see it
in the game, but this might take a little more time to figure out :)

Update to program

Post by Deleted User »

I was thinking again about suggestions from Godalmighty83 & NeverSnake.

the progam (version 1.0.0.3) now allows you to:

1 Hover the mouse over a status-bar weapon colour to show which turrets can fit this weapon.

2 Simple background colour choice (under Options),
(the colour you get might be brighter than the one selected for light-rendering reasons)

Manual rotation / movement of ships (with mouse) will probably take a bit longer.

:) Cheers

Hot on the heels...
new version 1.0.0.4 now allows manual (mouse) control of ship rotation and distance.
As requested by Godalmighty83.

The mouse button in the toolbar will toggle auto/manual mode animation.
Click down & hold the mouse left button, then move up/down to rotate,
use the mouse wheel (don't need mouse button held down) to move the
ship nearer/further away.

If you don't have a mouse wheel (get one, they're damnably useful),
I think clicking the centre button and moving the mouse is the same?

Also fixes rendering error for cap. ships introduced in 1.0.0.3.

Must write a helpfile for this some time soon.
