OK, one more time, since the Goner rank question seems to keeping popping up like a bad penny.
From the Argonopedia:
Goner Ranks and Reputation Points
Protector of the Goners....100000
Preacher .........................10000
Honoured Friend................1000
Accepted Member...............100
Trusted Member..................10
Member...............................0
Sceptical Member...............-10
Disloyal Member................-100
Unbeliever.......................-1000
Enemy............................-10000
Enemy of the Goners.......-100000
A long time ago in an X-Universe far, far away, I tested the Goner rankings by purchasing jumpdrives. At the time of the test, I was 0% Trusted Member. So to gain a % point, all I needed was a single reputation point. Since there's always a random element when raising your rank as to how many points you get, I did several tests. What I did was buy a series of jumpdrives, one after the other, and observed the rank increase. On average, it took me 5 jumpdrives to gain one reputation point. That's ~500,000 credits of purchases for one point!
So to go from Trusted Member to Accepted Member, you'd need to purchase ~50 Million credits of merchandise, whether it's jumpdrives, transporter devices, or salvage insurance. So you can imagine how much it will take to raise a single percentage point once you're at Preacher ranking!
Just in case you can't, here it is.

Since you're already at Preacher, you've got at least 10,000 points. So a single % to the next ranking, Protector of the Goners, is ~1000 points (1% of 100,000). That's 500 million credits, folks! Now do you understand why you never notice any increase?
And if you really want to see the actual numbers, you need to turn on the script editor (yes, I know, you get that stupid 'Modified' tag.

). Once the script editor is on, just target any Goner ship, get their info screen, and then page down until you see the listing of all the races and their reps with the Goners. Your name will be there, and the first of the two numbers shows the number of rep points you currently have.
I believe that it works the same way when you do something bad to the Goners. It may take a lot of ship capturing to get a single percent drop, but once you get them really mad at you, you can probably forget about transporter devices and salvage insurance for the rest of the game.
