1.3 crashes in Famil Whi

I got X3 for Xmas from my kids and let me say that the graphics are A1. I am a bit annoyed that the keyboard controls have been shifted around from X2. Anyway that is not my problem.

I am currently playing the plot and have completed mission 2 and am currently trading to try to repair my ship and get some upgrades before continuing. I have seen that there are free ships to be collected so I thought I would grow my empire by collecting a few. However as I explore sector Family Whi looking for one the game crashes. The crash has happened 4 times now

1 ... directly upon entering the sector from the west gate
2 ... as I approach the near asteroids
3 ... as I fly towards the east gate
4 ... as I approach other asteroids in the south

OS - Windows XP - all the latest patches
Processor - AMD Athlon 64 3000+
RAM - 1 GB
Graphics Card - ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 - 128 MB
Sound - AC 97 compatible

Game version - 1.3

I believe I have more than the minimum required system to run the game and everything works brilliantly in the boron and argon sectors - I have noticed that Teladi space takes longer to kick in - particularly Seizewell.

Has anyone come across this fault???

I had a crash which was similar. I had to abandon my last save and start from one before. You could try that.

Thanks for the advice - I have no save games without the bug so back to the satrt for me - Luckily I am not too far into the game so its off into the universe I go again.
