What? No Flying Scotsman? Curse.

Take all the time you need to fix the faults guys, I'm not planning to buy X3 asap.

Yeah, this is one of the most used I've seen.

Easy fix is to get a dedicated server for just the forum, not cheap though (also if it's not already this way).

Not sure if swapping to invision board would speed things up.......

I think its because of the controversy for spacefans that X3 has caused, due to a few things, and because X3 and Egosoft really are that great!

fudge, I nearly forgot this community too!

Well, you'll know if you released a good patch when the visit density drops--as people play the game--then returns after a few days or (hopefully for the company) weeks.
Much as I'd like to think we're just popular I think that might have hit the nail on the head!

Be nice to get the "Extra search" function back if a larger server is purchased. The other search thing is next to useless.

The heavy traffic could be down to Egosoft relasing an unfinished game? :D

I also have to admit that when I first read the headling "good and bad news" I figured the good was being recognized, and the bad: that it was mostly because people couldn't get their game to work right in the first place. The thing is though, lets face it if the game was that bad, then people would just stop playing altogether, so obviously the fact that most people would rather come here and fix their game than return it says something. Also this forum really is great. I have had numerous problems with this game, but thanks to quick responses and good information (even despite the search option) everything is smooth enough to enjoy. Congrats

They only overtook us because of the downtimes - we'll get back up there soon! ;-)

As for using a dedicated forum machine - open a command prompt and do a ping to forum.egosoft.com - then do another to www.egosoft.com - you should notice different IPs. That's because we've got one server for handling the forum, one for the website - oh and there's another one for the database.

The lack of statistics around halloween is a result of the upgrade that happened back then - which was moving the forum to it's own server, setting up the appropriate domains and adapting the website so it knew the new URLs.

The upgrade to come is that we're swapping the current forum server for a more powerful one and are also preparing a load balancing solution to split the forum onto several servers.

I can't promise anything for the Extra Search feature - we'll have to see how the new server's gonna cope with the load. If it is running well and there are still reserves I might re-enable it.

Good Work egosoft....

I for one did not have any problems with my game when I played the storyline through.

It would be great to have a faster server because I want to learn how to mod this game and it is difficult to get the info I am looking for while the board is bogged down...

I would like to say a hearty thanks to EGOSOFT for the fabulous job they have done with this game, I cannot wait to see the improvements coming in 1.3

:D :) :o :P

If the forum is so darn busy, why is the BOINC team in danger of falling out of the worlds top 100? If you don't know what I'm talking about, try this http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=70059.

Hmm, the only reason I visit the forum (on a daily basis) is to see if there are any insights into the many bugs X3 has. I dont disagree that this is a fantastic game but as soon as there is a patch release I dont think I will be back for a while (given the patch solves all the issues)... Congrats on the stats, but keep in mind it's probably due to the many poor souls wishing to have a fully functioning game. We live in hope!

according to big-boards.com statistics our forums are currently ranked 3rd amongst the world's most visited phpbb forums submitting their stats to big-boards.com.

Can I just point out that this may well be because so many people are visiting the site to get technical help for the game, seeing as the bloody thing in broken. 36700 posts are on the X2 tech forum which has been running for quite some time. However there over 10000 posts in the X3 tech forum already and the game has only been on the shelves a few weeks. Do not interperit lots of visits to the forums as good press unless you are sure your product is sound. If you do the math, in 2 years time you will have had 240,000 visits to the tech forum, woohoo, a world record maybe? Not good....Not good at all. Fix the game, then boast how great you are please.

Thanks.
If it aint broke then there is room for modding.

Yay, you have the 3rd most visited php bboard site - and the 1st most screwed up on release game ever.

I come here day by day to check to see if you have fixed the game that I spent 8 weeks saving up for - £35 is a lot of money out of my incapacity benefit. I can only afford to buy 4 or 5 games a year, and I expect them to work out of the box.

Having such high visitor numbers is nothing to be proud of in this instance - it's frustrated gamers wanting fixes for their game.

Maybe next week you'll have a press release detailing how X3 allows gamers to make cups of tea between sectors cos the wait is that long...
