NEWS: Good and bad news from the forums

Post by BurnIt! »

Good news first:
according to big-boards.com statistics our forums are currently ranked 3rd amongst the world's most visited phpbb forums submitting their stats to big-boards.com.

In addition to that the egosoft.com forums have been chosen for "featured phpBB November 2005" by phpbbhacks.com

The bad news is, that there is a price tag attached.

Anyone visiting the forums lately will have noticed the, unfortunately quite frequent, hangs or plain simple downtimes of the forum server. This is quickly explained by the enormous number of users visiting the forums. Rest assured that we are working on resolving these issues asap - starting with a further hardware upgrade early next week. In addition to that we are also working on some software-side improvements to make the system more stable.

So stay tuned, there's light at the end of the tunnel - and it sure as hell ain't no train ;)

We should start a "Egosoft Forum Server Fund" where we all can make donations to give to Egosoft to upgrade their Forum Server. :D

I am willing to bet that due to Halloween, many people were pre-occupied with other "things". Granted, that's only for those in the US. I haven't the foggiest idea why that dropped off for others around the world as well.

By this do you mean that due to 1.3 being released people won't be complaining about x3 not meeting their expectations :?

I for one have moaned  but I have faith in the staff at Egosoft, and also know they won't let us down.

Keep up the good work.

I wondered what the hanging was about.

I kept thinking 'Ooh! It's down while they upload patches or some such.'

Feh!

Doesn't surprise me the interest though. It's the best forum I've used in terms of the people (fast response and friendly) and of course the game is great even with it's faults.
Always welcome! Cheap and filling!

Truth be told he fell asleep at the keyb and awoke with QWERTY stamped on his forehead.

And forum got spammed with 50,000 messages from him all saying:

Kudos to Egosoft for noticing the problem and actually taking action to remedy it. I can think of many gaming companies that would have just ignored it.

I hope when the hardware upgrade comes online it will possible to restore the Extra Search feature as well. That would just about complete the forum restoration.

Anyway, big thumbs up. :)

Are you sure the increased number of visitors wasn't because of people complaining or trying to solve their problems with the game? :P

Well, you'll know if you released a good patch when the visit density drops--as people play the game--then returns after a few days or (hopefully for the company) weeks.

Must admit I had just about given up using the forum in the afternoon (UK time) Once our transatlantic cousins get on everything slows :(

However the visitor / member numbers are great news :)
And improved hardware will help to sustain the interest.....well done Ego :D
