Public Betatester and Dev Computer Specs

Post by -TD-13- »

Due to request, here is a sample of some of our Beta Tester's computer specs.
We did this when X2 was released, so we figured we do it again for X3. :)

Please note that this isn't the number of beta testers we have, we have many more!
This is just a sample taken randomly of the computers that were used heavily during beta testing.

Thanks again to all Beta testers who participated!
Enjoy

Nice selection of setups. Will give a lot of would-be players hope for the future ;)

That includes me. Good to see my old AMD 2400+ is in that list as well. Shame I upgraded it then :P

Cool, go 2 and 5!

Also just like to add I've taken part in a measely 2 closed betas elsewhere, but no way would I take on this kinda job for a game I'm looking forward to again as I find it spoils it big time, especially when you've done the same bits 20 times over.

Glad some took it up though :)

Thanks,
Mopy

Your girlfriend out-rigs you? Man, if my girlfriend tried that with me I'd sabotage her PC. She wouldn't notice the performance decrease if I swapped components anyway ;)

Yes, she draws a not insignificant amount of pride from that. In fact, she often gloats at LUG meetings and other gatherings of geeks.

If I were to upgrade, she'd see that as a direct challenge and would counter-upgrade. It's a battle I'd lose - she has the best kit, and that's the way it's gong to be.

WOAH! A hefty bunch of people beta-tested the game with 512MB RAM 'only'.
Thats interesting, since I solved 90% of my problems with X2 and several other games (SimCity 4, World of Warcraft...) only when I punched in another 512MB 'wafer', total 1GB. Hm, from what I've seen (from the shots) I would think X3 was rather RAM-hungry. Apparently not. 8)

Not much use if there isnt a average fps record to go along with them to see if them setups were like and what to expect if u have the same rig.

well looking at that not one of them is near the spec I am using so that dosn't excuse the buggs.
were all these guys virgin X-universe players or what :gruebel:
My end wasn't egosofts fault it was the usual Microsoft registery prob.
won't go into that now be here all night
XP is not all it's cracked up to be.
I've just installed DV's scripts and had some great fun starting wars with the races with about 60+ ships in argon prime fighting it out with no loss in frame rate.
Oh and by the way I've done a complete reinstall of XP.
IT'S NOT ALL EGOSOFT LOOK AT YOUR O/S microsoft again
I'll just say one word REGISTRY!

Actually it was...

There alot of unhappy people out there (and rightly so) and posting stuff like this is just asking for them to let off some steam.

Interesting you don't seem to have a Windows 2000 Professional PC in your O/S list.

Since DirectX9.0c runs on Win2000 I bet a fair few people including myself will have this. Never seen the point in upgrading to XP tbh...

Likewise, it is of course not a complete list of all the systems used either.

Are there any heavily overclocked Intel P2's with cryogenic cooling? :D

I've spent a weekend playing now and I'm getting good fps on this system at 1280+960 res with all graphics options on.

AMD 2800+, 6600gt 256mb, 1 gig ram.

Originally it ran slow, but now it only really slows down in a big dog fight in ore belt.

Paradoxically it runs faster with the graphics options all switched on and adq switched off. Makes no sense but that's what I've found.

I also do the following. (i've previously run a xptweak utility to close down non-essential processes)

1: start a free ram defragmeter utility
2: Start x2 to the options screen.
3: open task manager and kill explorer.exe
4. Run ram defragmenter and this gets me over 900MB of free ram for the game.
5 Close ram utility
6: Play x3

When finished playing you RUN explore.exe from task manager to get back the desktop.

Sigh! Now I understand.

There is not one among them who has an average rig. They al have superexpensive high end rigs. If that's the only thing this game is tested on, no wonder that people have problems.

Your minimum specs on the box say. win me 512MB, pentiumIV 1,7 ghz 128MB d3 direct9 card pixelshader 1.3 suport.

Question: Has anybody actualy tested with that type of rig?
And actualy that's about the kind of thing most people I know have simply for the reason that having such high end stuf means you spend two till three times as much and even more if you want to keep up.

Nice if you live in heaven but if you want lots of people to play your game,
Get real! It's going to be at least a year before we are going to see rigs like that in the main stream.
Xaffax out!
