Ouch, I did that to send the patch to my Dads comp... I tried to reinitialise... I heard a clack, and a clunk... then my PC blacked out... and restarted. I heard my hard drives go down and then restartGENERAL DAVE wrote:Only minor niggles but...
When pressing ctrl and escape to take the game down and say change my music settings or post on this forum, the game will not re enitialise, only a minor problem really but those are the only things mucking up my experience of what has so far been a fantastic game..

So yeah, if possible that could be fixed.
I want to know where my player logo went?! LoL. Someone said it would be in! A German moderator I think! Anyway, It's not neccessary... but it helps with imersion.

Thanks for doing the updates, makes it much easier for the devs and us to use.
I had another thought although its minor and im not sure if its meant to be like it or not...
When docking at a station the music stops, would be nice if it continued but maybe quietly and we still had the station background sounds.

Just as ain illustration of my main combat bugbear of brackets around everything, I give you a screenshot that I think makes my point nicely:
Messy Screen
Can you even tell where my crosshair is, except for "in the middle somewhere"?

Just bought a Mercury, decide to change to it, and then transfer some equipment from the Buster. It launched the Mercury for me.Neonin wrote:Is that when in a station? Cause I did it and didn't launch...Nazgutek wrote:Change Ships: Change the menu name it to "Change Ship and Launch", or make it so it doesn't launch.

Interesting... I had a Vulture and my Buster docked at the same station (extrenal docking), used the Change Ship option to switch between them, and just ended up on the same menu screen as before in my Vulture instead of in my Buster. It didn't launch for me.Nazgutek wrote:Just bought a Mercury, decide to change to it, and then transfer some equipment from the Buster. It launched the Mercury for me.

I'm sure EgoSoft will do everything they can to fix this game. Although whoever is responsible for the design of the game interface (because it was similar for X2) should be sacked. I like how the new interface is (well was intended to be) more intuitive, useful, and efficient, but unfortunately the color schemes for both the interface and the HUD were poorly chosen.
When in doubt, put the option in for the player defined settings!! Even a small child can figure that one out. Make the entire HUD user-configurable. That means colors, font sizes, window dimensions, and every key binding for every function in the game... let people choose different crosshairs or import their own.
Maybe it should have been an add-on pack for the original X2 game. It's starting to seem like it might have had more success if it had remained one.

I agree with the poster 100%. These are all things that you'd expect to work in that way suggested. In my opinion not having these things thought of and implemented in the first place is lazy.
One thing that annoys me is some of the trade menus. When I go to a shipyard, it's not that straightforward when it comes to buying a ship. I want to be able to see what ship I'm buying (a picture at the side of the ship would be lovely) and have some basic information of the ship in row and column form also I don't want to have to listen to that computerised woman tell me what things do at the rate of 5 words a minute, I want to READ a description - it's much quicker.
Another gripe I have is the lazy message log. Not a lot of thought went into this, it's just a notepad form of what's gone on. I hate having to scroll through the tiny window to see what missions I've got. You can delete the log but it gets rid of everything. What I'd like to see is some sort of menu for missions that you can click on the individual mission which also lets you know how long you have left for the timed ones.
How about some stuff going on in the background when we dock at stations? I'd love to see some people walking around the dock with machines doing various things such as fixing ships moving cargo etc. As it is the game feels very unlifelike with the same 3 characters for each race you communicate with.
Very Lazy on the Devs part imo. They could have done a lot with this game.

When you've selected the ship you're interested in, hit "I". It brings up a window listing all the ship details. Not exactly intuitive as there's no indicator prompting you to do that or anything though. It's something we learned in X2 but if you never played X2...lupin wrote:I want to be able to see what ship I'm buying (a picture at the side of the ship would be lovely) and have some basic information of the ship in row and column form also I don't want to have to listen to that computerised woman tell me what things do at the rate of 5 words a minute, I want to READ a description - it's much quicker.
I've added a couple more to my list now, like not being able to fire missiles while holding one of the strafe keys down because the interface stops recognizing any key press while you're holding a key down.

A Few suggestions for the next patch >>>>
1 Get rid of or fix or give the ability to switch of those dam anoying tool tips, which i can;t get rid of ! always leaves something on the bottom of the screen.
2 Give us the ability to switch of individual bits of the HUD . not just all or nothing! Being able to get rid of those anoying targeting brackets on every object would help performance in alot of cases..
3 Try and sort out the story line cut scenes and general ability to play the missions without having to worry about Graphics and Sound corruption and other general strange behavior... My first attempt at the 2nd mission had a very weird LOOP where a charater would keep repeating the same thing out of sink with what was going on and the game nearly froze up,, after about 30mins of this it just about went back to normal. At this point i uninstalled the game , downloaded the patch again Etc etc etc......
4 Bring back those jump gate graphics ,, i kinda liked them.. you can always give people the option to switch them off like X2.
5 I could think of afew other things ,, but until patch 1.3 is out i;ve decided to abandon the story line and just try to make afew CR trading and trying to build up abit of an empire......
System Specs..........
P4 3.2E 1MB Cash at 800Mhz
Nvida 6800 GT 256MB
2GB PC3200 Ram at 400Mhz
Motherboard.... MSI 865PE Neo2-p
Audigy 2 ZS sound card
seagate 160GB 7200rpm HD
MSI DVD burner X12 spees
MSI DVD ROM
Roll on patch 1.3.....

I'm guessing the HUD is a major source of some players frustration. The HUD in Freespace 2 worked because it was informative and you could change the colour to something that you personally found easy to make out. This, I feel, is where X3 falls down. The interface design is quite frankly poor, BUT, it's something that can be worked on.

I was in my mercury transporter and I set it on autopilot from sector The Wall to sector Home of Light, it went first to Presidents End but it got stuck in a short loop (few km) and kept circling back towards the gate, I wanted to see what would happen so I let it continue, it just wouldn't stop doing it and then it nearly crashed into the gate.
Its sometimes really annoying when the ship try's to avoid something and fly's out away then back just to make a very small adjustment, e.g. when avoiding a large object it will go out away (opposite direction) then left then in then out then left then in etc. until it finally gets around.
It takes ages sometimes and seems a really stupid way to avoid something, I hope this is improved because it can be frustrating and time wasting.
ok so...
1. Autopilot needs improving on avoidance and path finding.
2. Seta needs improving so it won't drop out so easily.

Ok Ive been playing for less than an hour and I agree with both sides of what ppl are finding - yes it has a lot of flaws and things that have just been taken from X2, but I also agree that yes it has lots of potential to improve and change for the better. All we need for this is egosoft to do what they did so well in the past and listen to its fanbase.
At this moment in time I can suggest a couple of things off the toppa my head (havent read the full thread as going out in a min, sorry!)
1) Never liked the black outlining around everyone of those HUD bits and bobs - makes the HUD look gimmicky and cartoony against a seemingly real looking space environment
2) I know this one has been mentioned but doesnt hurt to mention again, and also comes partly from 1) - get rid of all those HUD bits and bobs, way too many flying about like a game of tetris that are of no use when in midst of battle with excpetion to the poor sucka you ARE targetting and want to distinguish from the rest.
This third one is based on the only explosion I have seen so may have seen it wrong , but what the heck Im gonna tell you all what I saw 1st time
3) Explosions - yeah they look prettyish them balls o flame, BUT the first one I saw was when I destroyed a transport and it looked silly because (and try to stay with me here) you go from looking at a longish transport to it dissapearing (when gone boomboom) and being replaced by a much smaller fireball (the boomboom) for a brief second or two, then to a spray of fiery-ashlike bits, and then no evidence there was a ship there moments ago at all (ya know that stuff called debris).
I would not have been quite as bad if the explosion was as long\wide as the ship as you would not notice the ship ends being suddenly cut off, but here its as if the front end and back end of the ship went paul daniels magic and dissapeared. The best way would have been to have a couple of explosions and then a brief flying of bits like X2 did.
I think that last one probably lost you all

You don't need to read the entire thread, I've been updating the first post with all the relevant issues posted here.
I did follow you on the explosions, and it's something I've also noticed and meant to put down. It's now on the first post under "General Graphics Issues".
Thank you everyone who has contributed to the list so far!

Your doing some great work Neonin! This really should be stickied...
few more bugs:
Stations:
Information service: When you get to the second level of options/questions the image of the girl is replaced very briefly but repeatedly with the Goner man from missions 1 and 2.
Manual docking at trading stations: An invisible force field prevents you from manualy docking.
Docking perspective: when you dock with a trading station you fly into quite a wide rectangular box (i.e docking bay) but when you leave the rectangle/box is much smaller, as if you were leaving a smaller docking bay.
Pirate base trading: When trading I had a 'readtext' caption come up on the bottom of the trading window - it looked an obvious error (wish I had taken a screenshot to illustrate)
AL Station defences: I attacked a station in Kingdom End (just for the hell of it). The announcment came, as usual, saying ships had been launched with orders to kill me. However no ships appeared and the local police patroling the area couldn't care less.
Combat:
Enemy ship damage: Their speed does not reduce with hull damage in the same way your ship does. This may be a game balancing method (- but if it is, I think it's a crappy method).
No dialogue: I attacked a merchant ship in Kingdom End and no dialogue could be heard from the pilot, even though he was in the monitor chatting away to me. (nb this isn't a problem with my computer!)
Interface:
This might have been mentioned but I've forgetton:
Sometimes the dialogue/help caption gets stuck on the screen and won't go away. This has been mentioned a few times in other threads.
Cheers

Thanks Samata, I've added most of your points to the main list. A few notes of my own:
The problem with the comms window picture flickering between different images is a recurring problem in almost all comms traffic.
Enemy ship damage: I've personally had ships I'm attacking slow down due to hull damage, so maybe you were just unlucky. It doesn't seem to affect them every drop of hull damage, but it does most.
The pirate base thing I noticed too, and I took a screenshot which is linked in the main post.

Here's another one, it's really difficult to fix your ship up to 100%. There seems to be only one pixel on the slider bar between 99% and a 100% and you can't even click on it.I also agree with the poster about the autopilot. It's rubbish.
I'm sending my game back on Monday for a refund. Thank god for 10 day returns policy. Not saying it's a bad game, I'd quite like it if it weren't for all the bugs and annoyances but it just isn't polished and there's a lot that could have been done to it to make it a good game.
Main gripes:-
Same few npcs with stupid faces.
Boring uninteractive universe -about 3 things you can say to npcs and nothing on bulletin boards but junk. Also planets are the background i.e. uninteractive - never been to space but it certainly doesn't feel like it.
Crap message log.
No Tutorial - shocking for a game like this with such a steep learning curve.
Can't view ships that you might want to buy.
Moody computer woman that gives descriptions half the time on items when really it would be quicker to read a description which there's a lack of.
Game engine that requires a really good computer to run when there are better looking games out there that run far better.
Bugs bugs bugs.
