No, a media player won't stop you from downloading.
Did you "right click, save as..." ?
People, LEARN:

Lose: To be unsuccessful in retaining possession of; for example: He's always losing his money.
Loose: Not fastened or restrained; for example: Loose papers

Erm. The X3 movie on the site is grand, but I just checked a Bug mag DVD and there's another one in there, with plenty of combat and special effects.

Am I missing something here?

Without seeing the demo you are talking about, I've no idea, but why would you be missing something if it were different anyway?

Perhaps the E3 video. That was mostly a cutscene with combat.
Come watch me on Twitch where I occasionally play several of the X games

That video was one made by the publishers and shown only by the publishers (Deepsilver) and is completely out of date.

That'd explain the Centaur/Nova squad flying. But still, does it mean we still get flying debris and nice free-jump effects? ;)

Can anyone help me please, I can't play the WMV, I get "C00D1199: Cannot play the file" error in Windows Media Player. I assume it should download the correct codecs itself for this?

And the mp3 music sounds awful and juddery and I don't think it's supposed to sound like that at all.

Not have much luck today.
Thanks for your help.

You will need to DivX codec. If your system cannot handle the very high res video, download one of the smaller versions.

I downloaded the DivX bundle, is this the correct way to get the codec?

Yes, there should be an option to just install the codec and nothing else IIRC.

If this doesn't work, just d/l one of the wmv versins instead. They should be fine in Win MP 10

I have tried both the .avi and .wmv in Media Player 10 and the DivX player, none of them work. Media Player 10 gives the error above? I might try re-installing, perhaps it's corrupt as the mp3 doesn't work either.

Ho hum. or I might just wait for the game and see it then!

Thanks for your help!

Actually I thought I would give it another a go, but it still doesn't want to work. But am I going mad, are these files actual proper media files?

The reason I ask is I found a program call GSpot (?) that tells you which codecs you need to play a particular file and all three, the .wmv, .avi and .mp3 came up invalid in this program. Just to make sure the program was working I tried it on another .wmv and a .mp3 and it reported them okay.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Nathan.

It sounds like your downloads might be corrupt.

You're spot on - a word to the wise - don't download these use Firefox, use I.E. otherwise it corrupts them.

Wierd eh?

Thanks for your help.

Were you using a download accelerator? They sometimes mess things up.
